Engineering endosperm storage compartments enables simultaneous enrichment of multiple vitamins in rice.

Engineering rice endosperm with modules for vitamin binding, lipid storage, and antioxidant protection enriched water- and fat-soluble vitamins without compromising key agronomic traits and maintained vitamin higher levels after cooking, demonstrating its potential to improve crop nutrition.

Natural variation in SlGRF10 reveals a role in regulating tomato fruit weight

Analysis of natural variation in SlGRF10 in over 1,000 tomato accessions revealed that increased single-nucleotide polymorphism diversity in SlGRF10 is associated with lower fruit weight, which suggests that putative impaired activity contributes to reduced fruit weight, while breeding-induced reduction of genetic variation may have promoted increased fruit weight.

A minimal two-amino-acid deletion in SmMYB1 converts an activator into a dominant repressor, reshaping global eggplant anthocyanin pigmentation during domestication.

This study uncovers a rare case in which a deletion of just two amino acids is sufficient to generate a potent dominant-negative regulator, designated SmMYB1alf-D, which enables reliable prediction of fruit color and provides a breeding strategy to precisely manipulate anthocyanin metabolism.
