Synthesis, FTIR and XRD Spectral Studies of Biopolymer Conjugates of Cellulose and Cellobiose Acid Hydrazides and N-Protected Para-Amino Benzoic Acid

Biopolymers serve as sustainable choices because their natural decomposition and compatibility with living organisms make them better options than synthetic polymers. The biopolymers exhibit enhanced properties through their functionalization with bioactive molecules which include acid hydrazides and N-protected para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). The research focused on creating and analyzing new biopolymer conjugates through cellulose and cellobiose modifications with fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) which were later combined with ethyl-PABA and hydrazine. In this research, cellulose was extracted from sugarcane bagasse and palm kernel oil fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) was used to modify it through esterification. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to conduct a complete study of the structural and crystalline characteristics of the newly created conjugates. FTIR analysis successfully confirmed the chemical modifications. XRD analysis showed that each modification step transformed the biopolymer materials into new crystalline forms. The research achieved successful development biopolymer conjugates, which exhibit multiple functions, which include drug delivery and anti-tuberculosis components.
