PKHD1L1 affects fertility in women

Reproduction is one of the most fundamental biological processes in the human body, yet the molecules governing it remain incompletely understood. Here, we have characterized the role of PKHD1L1 and its globally relatively common splice donor variant rs17368310 in female fertility. We demonstrate estrogen-responsive ex...

Cross-sectional associations of smoking and alcohol intake with NMR-measured lipid and metabolic biomarkers in over 100,000 Mexican adults

Smoking and alcohol use increase disease risk through metabolic disruption, vascular damage, and chronic inflammation. Plasma-based nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabolomics can profile lipoproteins, amino acids, and inflammatory biomarkers linked to lifestyle-related disease risk. We examined cross-se...

Genetic analyses of blood pressure traits in 140,000 admixed adults from Mexico City

Blood pressure (BP) is a major, heritable determinant of cardiometabolic health. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified thousands of BP-influencing genetic variants. People of admixed American (AMR) ancestry harbour variants that are rare in other populations yet remain understudied in GWAS. Here, we pe...

Within-family effect of ancestry on complex traits in a Mexican population.

Overall, this study provides an experimental design to study between-ancestry genetic effects and identifies significant ancestry differences for height, type 2 diabetes and metabolic traits in a genetically diverse population from Mexico City.

Enhanced power and transferability for genetics-driven metabolomic biomarker discovery in admixed American cohorts

Among AMR participants of the All of Us cohort, using MCPS-trained (vs. INTERVAL-trained) models to predict metabolomic traits yielded five times as many significant associations across three cardiometabolic diseases: ischaemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

Blood Pressure, Kidney Function, and Kidney Mortality Among Mexican Adults.

Elevated BP as a major modifiable risk factor for kidney failure mortality, CKD, and albuminuria is highlighted in this large prospective study in Mexican adults.
