APS protects photoreceptors against acute hypoxic injury through a multi-target mechanism modulating oxidative stress, mitochondrial stabilization, dual apoptosis inhibition, and autophagy activation, with a concentration-dependent safety profile, but its benefit is limited under prolonged hypoxia.
