AGTECHS FOR SMART FARM MANAGEMENT: TECHNOLOGIES SUPPORTING MONITORING, CONTROL, AND DECISION-MAKING

Digital transformation has substantially expanded the use of technologies capable of monitoring agricultural systems, automating operational activities, and supporting farm decision-making. In this context, this narrative review aimed to examine how major AgTechs contribute to monitoring, operational control, and smart farm management. The review discusses technologies including smart sensors, the Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicles, Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS), artificial intelligence, decision support systems, and Digital Twins, emphasizing their integration into agricultural management processes. The findings indicate that the primary value of AgTechs lies not only in generating large volumes of data but also in transforming dispersed information into actionable knowledge that supports more efficient, predictive, and integrated decision-making. The review also addresses current barriers related to implementation costs, digital connectivity, interoperability, technical training, data security, and the adaptation of technological solutions to diverse farming realities. Future progress in smart farm management will depend on the development of accessible, interoperable, and producer-centered technologies capable of improving productivity, resilience, and sustainability across agricultural production systems.
