MELD: Mel-Spectrogram-Based Speech Language Modeling with Discrete Latent Variables

A discrete latent variable model on mel spectrograms that jointly optimizes the encoder and the speech language model is introduced that effectively alleviates common issues in autoregressive mel spectrogram modeling.
