CAST: History-Adaptive Spectral Clipping for LLM Pretraining

This work introduces CAST (Clipping with Adaptive Scales and Thresholds), a history-adaptive extension of SSC that achieves lower training and mean validation losses than nine gradient-processing baselines, with the fewest relative gradient spikes.
