( Invited ) Wearable Sensors for Monitoring Drug Pharmacokinetics

Drug monitoring is essential both for detecting doping and for advancing personalized medical care. It enables clinicians to fine-tune medication doses, verify whether patients follow prescribed regimens, and gain insight into how drug levels change within the body. Traditional testing methods typically depend on drawing blood, which is invasive. Alternatives like urine and sweat are appealing, but current technologies usually require collecting and processing samples separately and cannot deliver real-time readings. In this work, a wearable system incorporating electrochemical sensors is introduced for on-body drug measurement. The device tracks L-DOPA levels in sweat under different scenarios, including varied intake amounts and different times after consumption. Overall, this wearable sweat-analysis platform demonstrates a pathway toward continuous, noninvasive, point-of-care monitoring of therapeutic drugs.
