Cell and nuclear scaling constrains tissue fluidity in a doubly-dense remodeling epithelium.

During epithelial remodeling, tissues exhibit solid- or fluid-like properties depending on developmental constraints. In soft matter systems like foams and colloidal glasses, component size influences material mechanics. Here, we investigated how cell and nuclear size affect tissue mechanics. mh mutant embryos have epi...

Three-dimensional Cell and Nuclear Geometries Inform Tissue Level Fluid Mechanics During Epithelial Remodeling

It is shown that contractile events produce a continuous “rectification” of cell contacts, in which interfaces systematically rotate toward more vertical orientations, indicating that planar polarized interface identities are continuously re-interpreted in time depending on orientation angle.
