This chapter outlines several histological and molecular methodologies for the accurate quantification and analysis of AM colonization in plant roots and indicates that quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction is particularly valuable for profiling a wide range of actively expressed genes.

Mycorrhiza‐induced resistance against Botrytis cinerea in tomato operates through the systemin signalling cascade
