Developing students' communicative competence through a holistic pedagogical approach

In contemporary foreign language pedagogy, the development of communicative competence represents a central educational goal. Modern approaches extend beyond the traditional focus on grammatical accuracy and place greater emphasis on learners' capacity to employ language meaningfully and effectively in real communicative contexts. In the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), this paper looks at how agency affects students' enthusiasm, involvement, and communication readiness, especially during speaking exercises. As modern educational settings become progressively influenced by digital technologies and artificial intelligence, learners are expected to go beyond accurate language production and demonstrate the ability to analyse information, assess arguments, and participate in communicative exchanges. From this standpoint, language is viewed not simply as a rule-based system but as a dynamic tool that enables thinking, social interaction, and the expression of personal meanings.
