Assessing creative self-efficacy in the Spanish workplace: Adaptation and validation of two self-report scales.
Creativity is a fundamental driver of organizational innovation, and creative self-efficacy (CSE) reflects employees' confidence in their creative potential. Despite the growing interest in measuring CSE in different professional and cultural settings, no evidence-based adaptation of instruments currently exists for Spanish employees. Two widely used measures of CSE were translated and culturally adapted for Spanish workers using a rigorous back-translation process. Data from 405 workers were analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis to examine internal structure. Reliability was estimated with McDonald's ω, and validity evidence was explored through correlations with general self-efficacy, job experience, and personality traits. CFA supported the unidimensional structure of scores from both instruments; fit evidence was satisfactory for incremental indices (CFI and TLI ≥ 0.95), though the RMSEA for the longer scale exceeded conventional cutoffs, reflecting mixed overall fit. Reliability estimates were satisfactory (ω ≥ 0.80 for the short scale; and ω = 0.95 for the longer scale). Convergent validity was supported by strong correlations with general self-efficacy, and additional evidence was obtained through expected associations with job experience and personality traits, particularly openness and extraversion. Findings provide preliminary reliability and validity evidence for CSE scores in Spanish workplace settings. The longer instrument demonstrated superior reliability and is readily available as an open-access resource. It offers a promising option for researchers and practitioners aiming to evaluate creative self-efficacy in Spanish organizational contexts.
