Conceptual differences and the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the evolution of the educational environment

Every time a truly powerful technology emerged, the world moved to a new level. Today, we stand on the threshold of another transition, and artificial intelligence plays a key role here. The paper demonstrates that AI and machine learning are not the same thing. Artificial intelligence is a broad field that attempts to make machines act like humans: think, make decisions, and succeed even in challenging situations. Machine learning is just one tool within this field. Its job isn't to «think,» but to accurately find patterns in data. While AI strives for results at any cost (even with errors), machine learning always strives for the purity of calculations. The study focuses on one question: what are big data and modern algorithms actually changing in schools and universities? Instead of forcing everyone to the same pace, technology allows for tailored learning to each student, taking into account their errors, reading speed, and even their current mood. In addition to personalization, the paper specifically examines two areas. The first is tools for those whose health or developmental disabilities hinder traditional learning. The second is how programs relieve teachers of a mountain of paperwork and, in return, provide a clear picture of who in the class truly understood the topic and who is just pretending. Technology isn't just about advantages. The paper also examines practical challenges. First, personal data; second, ethics; third, funding.
