The first complete chloroplast genome and phylogenetic analysis of Veratrum dolichopetalum O.Loes. (Melanthiaceae)
Abstract Veratrum dolichopetalum O.Loes. (1926) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Melanthiaceae that is geographically restricted to northern Korea and the Ussuri River basin of Russia. Here, we present the first complete chloroplast genome of V. dolichopetalum, which is 153,673 bp in length and contains 82 protein-coding gene copies, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The genome exhibits the typical quadripartite structure, comprising a large single copy region (83,352 bp), a small single copy region (17,603 bp), and a pair of inverted repeats (26,359 bp each). Phylogenetic analysis based on 77 orthologous chloroplast protein-coding genes indicated that V. dolichopetalum is closely related to V. oxysepalum Turcz. The complete chloroplast genome reported here provides essential genomic resources for further evolutionary studies of Veratrum.
