Domain adaptation of large language models for additive manufacturing using retrieval-augmented generation and fine-tuning

Results indicate that retrieval-augmented approaches provide a more effective pathway for adapting LLMs to specialized engineering domains than naive fine-tuning on unstructured technical data.
