We revisit EBG-1, a gravitationally lensed galaxy at $z = 9.244$, using newly obtained deep (14 hr) JWST/NIRSpec G235M ($R \sim 1000$) spectroscopy. EBG-1 is one of the bluest galaxies observed at $z>9$. Along with its remarkably blue continuum of $\beta = -2.99 \pm 0.15$, we find very weak nebular emission from EBG-1....

Recent surveys have detected excess flux in the Lyman-$\alpha$ forest of quasar spectra several Mpc from high-redshift line-emitting galaxies, indicating a correlation between intergalactic medium (IGM) transmission and reionisation-era galaxies. We examine the galaxy-IGM connection using the Sherwood-Relics simulation...

It remains debatable how billion-solar-mass supermassive black holes (SMBHs) form and evolve within the first billion years. We report results from a James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)/NIRSpec integral field unit (IFU) survey of 27 luminous quasars at z ∼ 5–6, enabling a systematic investigation of their key physical pr...
