The existing mechanistic knowledge about the PTBP1 functions during viral infection is described and the possibility of PTBP1 being used as a host-directed antiviral drug target despite the hurdles in doing so considering its multifunctionality as an essential cellular RNA-binding protein is explored.
It is demonstrated that human La autoantigen (La protein) specifically binds to GCAC sequence near the initiator AUG within the 5’UTR of SARS-CoV-2 RNA promoting viral non-structural protein synthesis by cap independent translation, while suppressing replication early in infection.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is an emerging tick-borne pathogen that causes substantial morbidity and high case fatality in severe cases, representing a major public health concern in East Asia. Although protein-mediated mechanisms of SFTSV replication and immune evasion have been extensive...

Using SARS-CoV-2 infection models, it is shown that viral replication is associated with increased cellular m7G signal, supporting the relevance of this pathway during infection and suggesting that NSP14-induced m7G modification may contribute to the remodeling of host gene expression during coronavirus infection.
This work discusses viral-derived circRNAs, highlighting emerging evidence that HIV-1 encodes functional circRNA isoforms capable of modulating viral replication and transcription, and reviews synthetic circRNA-based approaches that exploit key viral RNA–protein interactions as potential antiviral tools.

The orthoflavivirus capsid (C) protein is a multifunctional protein that plays essential roles throughout the viral life cycle. Besides viral RNA encapsidation for nucleocapsid assembly, it associates with lipid droplets, interacts with host proteins, and translocates to the nucleus, although its nuclear functions are...

The first in-cell secondary structure maps of four EBOV mRNAs are presented, finding that structure content is concentrated within protein coding regions, resembling the highly structured genomes of positive-sense RNA viruses, while untranslated regions are relatively unstructured.
