Abstract
This study examines how financial resources influence sustainable education and institutional
development across four federal polytechnics in Nigeria's North-Eastern region. Despite
operating under identical national policy frameworks, these institutions exhibit markedly
divergent developmental trajectories. Employing a mixed-methods comparative case study design,
the research integrates documentary analysis, survey data from 200 academic staff, semi
structured interviews with management personnel, and observational assessments. Findings
reveal that while TETFund allocations have contributed substantially to infrastructural
development, the translation of financial inputs into sustainable educational outcomes is mediated
by institutional leadership quality, strategic planning capacity, and operational efficiency.
Notable disparities emerged in library modernisation, digital resource accessibility, staff
development opportunities, and research support. The study identifies persistent gaps in
investment in intangible assets essential for educational sustainability. These findings contribute
to scholarly discourse on higher education financing in developing countries and offer evidence
based insights for policy formulation.
