Abstract

We determine the defining ideal of the simple affine vertex algebra $L_{2-\ell}(\mathfrak{so}_{2\ell})$ for every odd $\ell\ge5$. Per\v{s}e's quadratic singular vector alone generates the maximal ideal of the universal affine vertex algebra at this level. Together with the established even-rank presentation, this gives a complete parity-dependent description of this type-$D$ collapsing family at $k=2-\ell$: one quadratic generator in odd rank, and a quadratic generator together with two Pfaffian generators in even rank. The proof establishes a rank reduction for the quadratic quotients under minimal Drinfeld--Sokolov reduction, valid in both parities. Nonvanishing of reduction on nonzero graded subquotients then lifts simplicity along the odd-rank chain from the known base case $D_3\cong A_3$ at level $-1$.

A Quadratic Bound for Automorphism Groups of Curves of Positive $p$-Rank in Odd Characteristic

Let $X$ be a nonsingular projective curve of genus $g\ge2$ over an algebraically closed field of odd characteristic $p$. Giulietti and Korchm\'aros established a quadratic genus bound with constant $900$ forcing zero $p$-rank for curves of even genus. We extend this bound to odd genus: for every $g\ge2$, positive $p$-r...

H-principle for corank two distributions of odd rank and maximal first Kronecker index

We study corank-two distributions $D$ of odd rank $2N+1$ whose associated pencil of skew-symmetric forms $\{d\alpha|_{D}(q)\mid \alpha\in\Omega^1(M),\ \alpha|_{D}=0\}$ lies, at every point, in the generic orbit of the natural $\mathrm{GL}\bigl(D(q)\bigr)$-action; equivalently, $D$ has maximal first Kronecker index. In...

Exceptional covers of the projective line with genus-one Galois closure: arithmetic forms over finite fields

Let $k=\mathbb F_q$. We classify, up to two-sided $k$-M\"obius equivalence, all separable indecomposable tame exceptional maps $\mathbf P^1_k\to\mathbf P^1_k$ whose geometric Galois closure has genus one. The resulting arithmetic fixed-field forms are encoded by Frobenius-stable affine elliptic quotient data recovered...

Finite free position of maximal abelian $\ast$-subalgebras of the matrix algebra

Finite free convolution is obtained by averaging characteristic polynomials over Haar unitary conjugation. We ask when two maximal abelian $\ast$-subalgebras of the complex matrix algebra ${\sf M}_n$ can be placed in finite free position: that is, when their relative position realizes this averaging exactly for every p...

A note on the noncommutative Hodge conjecture for graded matrix factorizations

Let $m\geq 2$ and $d\geq 7$. We consider homogeneous polynomials in $2m+2$ variables of the form $f=F_0(u_0,v_0)+\cdots+F_m(u_m,v_m)$, where the $F_i$ are independently very general squarefree binary forms of degree $d$. We prove the rational noncommutative Hodge conjecture for the dg category $\mathrm{MF}^{\mathrm{gr}...

Transitive automorphism groups of maximal curves

Let $q=p^h$ be an odd prime power and let $X/\F_{q^2}$ be a maximal curve of genus at least two. We classify the curves for which the full geometric automorphism group is transitive on the set of $\F_{q^2}$-rational points. We prove that, if $h>1$, then $X$ is the Hermitian curve. If $h=1$, the only additional possibil...
