Abstract

The main focus of this paper is to investigate the dynamical behaviors of a predator-prey model incorporating cooperative hunting among predators, which is widely observed in real ecological communities. Supposing identical temporal evolution for prey and predator populations, the present paper examines saddle-node, transcritical, Hopf, cusp, and codimension-2 Bogdanov–Takens bifurcations. In view of the realistic ecological fact that the growth rate of prey populations is considerably larger than the mortality rate of predator populations, the model is further extended to a slow-fast system. With the aid of geometric singular perturbation theory and asymptotic expansion techniques, the singular Hopf bifurcation and canard explosion are systematically analyzed. Finally, we investigate the transient dynamics. Theoretical results are then illustrated and verified by numerical simulations.  The current paper improves the understanding of sophisticated predator–prey dynamical interactions within single and multi-time-scale frameworks, and it provides valuable insights for revealing population persistence and community stability in natural ecosystems.

Complex dynamics of a tri-trophic predator-prey system with double fear effects

In this paper, we investigate a tri-trophic predator-prey system with double fear effects, where the prey is affected by fear induced by both the intermediate predator and the top predator. The top predator is assumed to feed on both the basal prey and the intermediate predator. We establish the positivity and boundedn...

Coexistence, Oscillations, and Chaos in a Discrete Predator-Prey System with Fear-Modulated Prey Growth

Predator–prey interactions are governed not only by direct consumption but also by behavioral responses of prey to the perceived risk of predation. In this work, we formulate a discrete-time predator–prey model in which predator-induced fear modifies prey reproduction through an exponential suppression mechanism, while...

Refuge, Competition, and Diffusion: Pathways to Spatiotemporal Complexity in a Predator–Prey Model

The interaction between predators and prey is a fundamental aspect of ecology. As a result, studying predator–prey interactions has become more vital to understanding their habitat. Prey populations employ various mechanisms to avoid predation in predator–prey relationships. In this paper, we proposed and analyzed a no...

Steady-state bifurcation and pattern formation in a predator-prey model with prey-taxis

In this paper, the bifurcation structure and stability of the nonconstant positive steady states in a ratio-dependent predator-prey model with prey-taxis are described. First, the stability results for the positive constant equilibrium will extend to the derivative of prey's functional response with prey is positive. I...

An Analysis of Stability and Bifurcation in a Delayed Leslie–Gower Predator–Prey Model with Linear Harvesting and the Fear Effect

This study examines a delayed predator-prey paradigm wherein a discrete time delay influences the evolution of the predator. The model incorporates nonlinear interaction variables, harvesting, and the fear effect. This study's originality is in the simultaneous examination of prey harvesting, fear-induced behavioral ch...
