This work assessed whether ECLIA NfL correlates with the ALSFRS‐R decline rate under the sampling conditions of clinical practice, and whether GFAP or S‐100B adds prognostic or disease‐specific information.
Abstract
In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), SIMOA‐based studies show that baseline serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) predicts the revised ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS‐R) decline rate and survival. The Roche Elecsys electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) reports values approximately six‐fold lower; cross‐platform comparison confirms comparable performance, but serial clinical‐practice data remain limited. We assessed whether ECLIA NfL correlates with the ALSFRS‐R decline rate under the sampling conditions of clinical practice, and whether GFAP or S‐100B adds prognostic or disease‐specific information.
Rising sNfL may precede mobility decline, highlighting sNfL as a potential indicator of functional worsening, and lower sNfL was associated with reduced daily ambulatory activity in progressive MS.

Abstract Objectives Serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) reflects neuroaxonal injury in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), but its clinical utility is limited by high interindividual variability and confounders such as renal function. Population-based thresholds may therefore be suboptimal for longitudina...

OBJECTIVE
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease with a rapid time from symptoms onset to diagnosis. Elevated neurofilament light polypeptide (NfL) is well-established in symptomatic ALS and up to 5 years prediagnosis, but earlier timeframes remain understudied. We aimed to assess plas...

Abstract Background Neurofilament light chain (NfL) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) are blood-based markers of neuroaxonal injury and astroglial activation, respectively. While established in neurology, their relevance in psychiatry remains unclear. Aims & Objectives To investigate the associations between c...

The differential diagnosis between degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) and early amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is often clinically challenging; laboratory tests that support this distinction could be highly valuable. This study examined the concentrations of neurofilament light chain (NfL) and the phosphorylat...

The longitudinal zNfL changes were related to lesion activity and subsequent atrophy, even after including MRI measures, and cross-sectional zNfL was related to active disease and predictive of disease progression, but not after taking MRI measures into account.
