Abstract

Simple Summary Nevus-associated melanoma, a melanoma arising in association with a pre-existing melanocytic nevus, accounts for approximately one-quarter of all cutaneous melanomas and is usually diagnosed at an early stage. Although thin nevus-associated melanomas generally have an excellent prognosis, a small proportion of patients still develop metastases or die from their disease. Identifying those at higher risk remains challenging. In this study, we investigated whether routinely assessed histopathologic features could improve risk stratification in thin nevus-associated melanoma. We found that increased mitotic activity and the absence of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes were associated with less favorable outcomes, suggesting that these conventional pathological features may help identify patients who require closer follow-up. These findings provide a basis for future studies aimed at refining prognostic assessment and personalizing the management of early-stage nevus-associated melanoma.
