Investigation of the genetic diversity and structure of D. brevifolia populations using newly neutral, species-specific nuclear microsatellite markers developed through genome skimming revealed low levels of allelic and genetic diversity and significant inbreeding levels.
Abstract
Dyckia brevifolia is a riparian bromeliad endemic to southern Brazil. Despite the endangered status of this species, no genomic resources are available to aid conservation initiatives. This study describes the investigation of the genetic diversity and structure of D. brevifolia populations using newly neutral, species-specific nuclear microsatellite markers developed through genome skimming. Genotyping thirty individuals from three populations with nine generated microsatellite markers revealed low levels of allelic and genetic diversity (A = 2.56 and He = 0.39, Ho = 0.19) and high fixation index (f = 0.46), indicating significant inbreeding levels. Principal coordinates analysis suggested the occurrence of gene flow directed by river current, favoring downstream populations, which evidences hydrochorous dispersal of propagules. These primary data using molecular markers provide the basis for designing conservation strategies to ensure the maintenance of gene flow and genetic variability in the fragmented populations of D. brevifolia.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the genetic variability and conservation potential of Myracrodruon urundeuva in the face of climate change. The study was conducted at the UFGD Experimental Farm in Dourados, MS, with 77 open-pollinated progenies originating from Selvíria, MS. The methodology involved measuring sur...

: Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook., a fast-growing timber species endemic to China, has been constrained in genetic improvement and marker-assisted breeding programs by the paucity of molecular-level genetic diversity information. In this study, 22 pairs of highly polymorphic SSR molecular markers were designed an...
North Indian populations of S. oryzae exhibit low genetic diversity, which has implications for pest management strategies primarily involving the use of fumigants, and the phylogenetic tree supported the genetic homogeneity of the population.

Simple Summary In Italy, the native Mediterranean trout populations are threatened by the introduction of hatchery-reared trout of Atlantic origin, which can cause hybridization and loss of local genetic biodiversity. This study aimed to provide a preliminary genetic characterization of the trout populations in selecte...

Genetic variability can provide important information on how populations behave internally and can also serve as a valuable guide for conservation. In the case of cultivated plants, the conservation of genetic variability contributes significantly to the stabilization of agricultural production. Then, this study aims t...
