Biology

TL;DR

Findings identify KdpA as a link between potassium homeostasis and Pa aggregate behavior and suggest that host-derived stress increases engagement of a homeostatic system that contributes to the coordination of population growth, aggregate organization, and dispersal.

ArlR regulates environmental stress tolerance and biofilm formation in foodborne Staphylococcusaureus

It is demonstrated that deletion of arlR significantly reduces the tolerance of the foodborne strain RMSA49 to acetic acid, desiccation, whereas its responses to temperature and osmotic stress not affected, and that the arlR mutant also exhibits significantly enhanced biofilm formation.

Protein aggregation as a bistable switch in bacterial cell fate: from adaptive dormancy to cytotoxic death

Protein aggregation has traditionally been considered a hallmark of proteostasis disruption and cellular dysfunction. However, recent studies have revealed that bacterial protein aggregation is not merely a passive consequence of stress-induced damage but may represent a dynamic component of cellular adaptation. Under...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa Intra-Population Diversity Shapes Host Airway Epithelial Responses

In chronic pulmonary infection airways are colonized by genetically and phenotypically diverse Pseudomonas aeruginosa populations, yet almost everything known about P. aeruginosa pathogenesis has been learned from single clinical isolates or laboratory reference strains studied in isolation. Whether a diverse populatio...

Role of O-specific antigen expression in Pseudomonas aeruginosa pathogenicity

ABSTRACT Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a versatile, opportunistic pathogen, well-known for its adaptability to the challenging conditions encountered during infection of the human host. In chronic biofilm-associated infections, variations in motility and LPS structure are commonly observed adaptive traits. In this study, w...

Iron as a principal mediator of dysbiosis prevention in the phyllosphere

Multicellular organisms require a correct microbiota composition for optimal health and fitness. Dysbiosis could lead to serious health consequences in humans and plants, and is pervasive during pathogen infections across systems. A recent study shows that carbon source availability plays a role in bacterial community...

Dynamic orchestration of structural and immune cells in acute Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia revealed by time-resolved single-cell and spatial transcriptomics

Background Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia triggers a complex, dynamic host response, yet the cellular coordination of inflammation and repair remains poorly defined. Methods We performed time-resolved single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on murine lungs across five timepoints (0–96 h post-infection) and integrated...
