CRISPR spacer-based host-virus linkage analysis is applied to 3,229 myxobacterial genomes and identified 790 nonredundant myxophages spanning diverse global ecosystems, substantially expanding the myxoviral diversity and providing insights into virus-host interactions and evolutionary adaptation of myxophages.
A systematic ESKAPE virome resource is established, phages’ dual roles in targeting resistant pathogens and curbing resistance spread are demonstrated, and mechanistic support for phage therapy clinical application is provided.

Nucleocytoplasmic large DNA and Mirusviricota viruses exhibit taxonomic richness which continually expands due to metagenomic sequencing. Here we curate a database of giant virus metagenome-assembled genomes (GVMAGs V2), comprising 8,508 species-level representatives from 18,727 GVMAGs, a sixfold increase from the prev...

A large-scale mining of the MetaVR database is presented to identify phages targeting human bacterial pathogens, establishing a large-scale framework for connecting human bacterial pathogens to phages and their lytic machinery, and translates large-scale viral genomic data into a resource for developing new therapeutic...

Responses to bacterial infection across five drosophilid species spanning 60 million years of divergence are compared, showing strongly species-biased transcriptional responses to the same pathogen and numerous uncharacterized lineage-restricted genes, including predicted antimicrobial peptides.
A systematic global genomic atlas of archaeal proviruses is established, advancing the understanding of their distribution and diversity while providing a foundation for future research into how proviruses regulate archaeal metabolism and ecosystem functioning.

Dehalococcoides mccartyi are obligately anaerobic organohalide-respiring bacteria that play important roles in the detoxification of chlorinated pollutants in groundwater and sediments. Despite having small genomes, they host a diverse set of mobile elements. Here we characterize a family of mobile elements, termed int...
