The synergistic use of the extracts and essential oil of these plants on hepatocellular induced rats showed an impressive recovery rate both in blood parameters and liver histopathology.

Abstract

Several treatment options have been sought to improve the blood indices against hepatocellular carcinoma cases. Despite this treatments, patient continue to suffer from several side effects. The alternative therapeutic agent in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma is imperative. The plant-derived anti-carcinoma are widely accepted and generally perceived as safe.  The ethanol extract of Zingber officinale Rosce and Capsicum annuum Linn at doses 200 and 400mg/kg were investigated for anti -hepatocellular carcinoma activities on blood and histopathological indices of rats induced with 300mg/kg thioacetamide. Forty albino rats were divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each and the following treatments were given; Group 1) received feed and water only. 2) received thioacetamide (300mg/kg) + 200mg/kg of  extracts. 3) received thioacetamide (300mg/kg) + 400mg/kg extracts. 4)  received thioacetamide (300mg/kg) only. Treatment was stopped after 28days.  Blood samples were taken for both hematology and biochemical examinations and liver tissue for histopathology. Results: The result showed a significant decrease (p<0.05) in HGB, RBC, MCV, MCH and MCHC levels following administration of thioacetamide to the TC group and a relative significant increase (p<0.05) in 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg group. There was also a significant increase (p<0.05) in ALP, ALT, urea and creatinine levels following administration of thioacetamide (TC) when compared to NC group. .  The synergistic use of the extracts and essential oil of these plants on hepatocellular induced rats showed an impressive recovery rate both in blood parameters and liver histopathology.

Aqueous and flavonoid-rich Carica papaya leaf extracts modulate 7, 12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced breast carcinogenesis in rats: roles of oxidative stress, inflammation, and in silico docking

Carica papaya leaves (CPL), traditionally used in ethnomedicine to manage inflammatory conditions and as an adjuvant in therapies, have been reported to have anticancer potential. This study investigated the chemopreventive and immunomodulatory potentials of aqueous extract (AqCE) and flavonoid-rich extract (F...

Comparative Protective Effects of Khaya grandifoliola CDC and Zingiber officinale against Cisplatin Induced Hepatic and Renal Toxicity through Antioxidant Mechanisms

Both plant extracts exert significant hepato- and nephroprotective effects against cisplatin-induced toxicity, likely through antioxidant and cytoprotective mechanisms, and support their potential use as complementary agents to mitigate chemotherapy-induced organ toxicity and prevent weight loss.

Protective Effects of Ethyl Acetate Extract of Persea americana Seed against Acetaminophen-Induced Hepatorenal Toxicity and Antioxidant Activity in Male Wistar Rats

Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose is associated with oxidative stress and injury to the liver and kidney. This study evaluated the antioxidant, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective effects of an ethyl acetate extract of Persea americana seed in male Wistar rats. Thirty adult male rats were randomly assigned to six groups...

Protective and therapeutic effects of orange-fleshed sweet potato (ipomoea batatas) juice against thioacetamide-induced hepatotoxicity in rats

The findings suggest that OFSP juice possesses significant hepatoprotective and hepatocurative properties, potentially related to its antioxidant and membrane-protecting properties, and support the potential therapeutic value of OFSP as a functional dietary component in the prevention and management of liver injury.

Study of the protective effect of alcoholic extract of flax seeds against thioacetamide-induced hepatotoxicity in male albino rats

The current study aims to investigate the role of flaxseed extract versus hepatotoxicity stimulated by thioacetamide in male white rats by examining some modifications. Liver tissue was examined for enzymes and antioxidants, urea, and creatinine. In this experiment, 25 male albino rats were divided into five groups: th...
