Abstract

The presented dataset is a high-resolution (1 × 1 km) daily climate time series for Germany covering the period 1981–2100 across a historic and nine CMIP5 climate change scenarios. The dataset is based on EURO—CORDEX projections from three Earth system models (ICHEC-EC-EARTH, MPI-M-ESM-LR, and NCC—NorESM1-M) under three representative concentration pathways (RCP 2.6, 4.5, and 8.5) and was bias-corrected against observational data from the German Weather Service (DWD). To reduce data volume in climate impact studies, the 355,944 1 × 1 km grid cells were aggregated into 10,000 spatial clusters based on multi-annual averages of five key variables for plant growth, specifically, temperature (minimum and maximum), precipitation, global radiation and vapor pressure deficit. The resulting dataset provides for each cluster nine daily climate time series of said variables until the end of the 21st century. The dataset is stored in SQLite databases and accompanied by a map relating representative climate clusters to the 1 km grid cells. To our knowledge, this is the first Germany-wide dataset that provides ready to use daily climate projections until 2100 at 1 km resolution with a climate-cluster representation that reduces computational demand, while keeping climatic variability.

Multi-decadal high-resolution historical simulations with the ECMWF global atmosphere model

This paper describes an ensemble of global atmosphere reference simulations covering the period 1980 to 2023 produced with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Integrated Forecasting System (IFS). The resulting dataset consists of 6-hourly three-dimensional global outputs from higher- and lowe...

Development of operational 0.01° resolution gridded historical daily precipitation data for Australia

Long-term gridded precipitation data are critical for better scientific understanding, environmental management and prediction of extreme events. We present the development and evaluation of daily 0.01° (~1- × 1-km) gridded precipitation data for Australia from 1880 onwards. The Australian Gridded Climate Data (AGCD) d...

IPEDClim: a high-resolution dataset of bioclimatic variables for ecohydrological applications in India

High-resolution gridded climate datasets are essential for ecological, agricultural, and environmental research. Species distribution models, which link species-occurrence records with environmental predictors, critically depend on bioclimatic variables (BCVs). In India, most studies rely on global BCVs such as WorldCl...

The CMIP6-downscaled CORDEX-Southeast Asia (SEA) ensemble: evaluation and benchmarking for megacities of SEA

Abstract. A 21-member ensemble of regional climate simulations has been produced for Southeast Asia (SEA) by dynamically downscaling Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) Global Climate Models (GCMs) under the World Climate Research Programme's Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX...

Downscaling of Temperatures Over the Eastern Mediterranean for the 21st Century

The Eastern Mediterranean is a climate‐change hotspot, yet global climate models (GCMs) cannot resolve the sharp coastal, mountain, valley, and desert gradients that shape local temperature variability in Israel. We develop an analogue‐based statistical downscaling method, using a K‐nearest‐neighbour framework, to...
