Abstract
Geogrids are widely used to stabilize and reinforce geotechnical infrastructure systems such as retaining walls, slopes, and unpaved/paved roads. The performance of geogrid-stabilized roads depends on several factors including the gradation of the unbound aggregate layer, the geogrid aperture size distribution and radial stiffness, and the stiffness of the subgrade layer amongst other factors. To investigate the performance of geogrid-stabilized pavement systems, particularly those using multi-axial geogrids, a new experimental device capable of conducting multi-axial tensile tests to determine radial stiffness under multi- axial loading has been developed. The device incorporates six load frames and jacks (3 pairs) to apply in- plane tensile forces. Depending on the number and orientation of the load frames and jacks, uniaxial, biaxial and triaxial loading configurations can be achieved by applying selected radial forces. In addition to in-plane tensile testing, the test system includes a soil box with a vertical reaction load frame to enable cyclic plate load testing of an embedded geogrid specimen. In the present study, results from multi-axial in plane tensile tests are compared with uniaxial tensile tests. The ability to test geogrids and geogrid-aggregate systems in different radial and out-of-plane loading conditions shows the potential challenges of relying on uniaxial test results only.
Geogrids are widely used in unpaved roads to reduce rutting and improve bearing capacity. Laboratory and field studies have demonstrated the benefits of geogrid reinforcement; however, the reinforcement mechanisms remain complex and difficult to quantify when the reinforcement configuration changes. This study examined...

In the disciplines of geotechnical engineering and transport infrastructure construction, geogrids are utilised to improve soil behaviour and carry tensile forces. In the context of unbound base courses, geogrids are most frequently implemented to stabilise the material. They restrict the movement of grains and minimis...

A full-scale test section was constructed to evaluate the performance of newly-developed multi- shape geogrids for base course stabilization in flexible pavements. The test section included one unstabilized test item and three geogrid stabilized test items. The geogrids were manufactured from either monolithic or coext...

Geogrids are extensively used in pavement engineering to enhance the load-bearing capacity of subgrade soils and to provide a stable working platform. The primary purpose of this research is to evaluate the shear behaviour of geogrids with different aperture sizes and the tensile strength in stabilising a stable subgra...

Access roads designed to support extremely heavy loads pose significant challenges in both design and construction due to the stringent requirements for stability, safety, and minimal deformation. Mechanical stabilization using co-extruded multi-geometry geogrids has proven to be an effective solution for such projects...
Unpaved roads, widely used in rural areas with low traffic volumes, are particularly vulnerable to rutting under heavy vehicle loads, especially when constructed over soft subgrades. Incorporating geosynthetic reinforcement within the aggregate base layer has proven to be an effective solution to mitigate such deformat...
