Abstract
The study presents an analysis of the relationship between microstructural evolution and creep properties degradation in welded joints made of P92 (X10CrWMoVNb9-2) steel subjected to long-term annealing. The investigated material consisted of butt-welded pipe joints exposed to thermal ageing at 600°C and 650°C for up to 10,000 h.
Microstructural observations were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while creep behaviour was evaluated using both constant-load tests with strain measurement and accelerated creep rupture tests. The results indicate that degradation processes are strongly temperature-dependent and are particularly intensified in the heat-affected zone (HAZ), where fracture initiation consistently occurs.
The dominant degradation mechanisms include coarsening of M23C6 carbides, dissolution of MX precipitates and recovery of the tempered martensitic structure. These changes lead to a significant increase in creep rate, reaching up to 25.7 times compared to the initial state, and a reduction in creep rupture strength of up to 34%.
A strong correlation between microstructure and creep behaviour was confirmed, indicating that microstructural analysis can be effectively used to assess the residual life of welded joints in high-temperature applications.
Centrifugally cast 35Cr45NiNb alloy has been widely employed in ethylene-cracking furnace tubes owing to its excellent carburization and creep resistance. However, the influence of microstructural degradation and temperature on its high-temperature tensile behavior remains poorly investigated. In this study, an acceler...

The microstructure and tensile properties of TIG-welded 316H joints after aging at 600 °C for up to 2000 hours were investigated. In base metal (BM), M23C6 carbides precipitated along grain boundaries after 500 hours and coarsened, while in weld metal (WM), δ-ferrite decomposed into M23C6 within 100 hours. The faster a...

Mechanical properties and fatigue performance are highly dependent on the microstructure formed during heat treatment. C75 steel is widely used in mechanically loaded components subjected to cyclic stresses, where fatigue resistance plays a critical role in ensuring operational reliability and service life. In this con...

This work explores how small additions of boron influence the microstructure and mechanical behavior of arc-welded mild steel joints. Welds produced without boron were compared with those containing 45 ppm and 47 ppm boron. Mechanical performance was evaluated using tensile, hardness, and Charpy impact testing, while m...
In this research, AZ91 magnesium alloy was subjected to solutionizing at 410 °C for different soaking times (4, 8, 16, and 24 h), and the microstructure evolution, phase change, and mechanical and corrosion properties were investigated. From the microstructural studies, it was clearly observed that the intermetallic ph...
