TL;DR
The total Gr-COHIP-SF 19 demonstrates satisfactory validity and reliability for evaluating oral health-related quality of life in children and young adolescents and can serve as a useful PROM to support patient-centred dental care and research in Greek-speaking children and young adolescents.
Abstract
Objectives
Tools evaluating how oral health affects the quality of life in children serve as valuable patient-related outcome measures (PROMs). This study aimed to develop a culturally adapted Greek version of the Child Oral Health Impact Profile-Short Form 19 (COHIP-SF 19) and assess its psychometric properties.
Methods
Bilingual translation and cultural adaptation using cognitive interviews with 15 children aged 8-15 years were conducted to develop the final Greek version. Psychometric testing of the Gr-COHIP-SF 19 was performed in a field study of 196 children and included confirmatory factor analysis, face validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Face validity was additionally evaluated by 50 dentists.
Results
Face validity was excellent, endorsed by 93.9% of children and 100% of dentists. Confirmatory factor analysis findings indicated a marginal model fit, providing partial support for the original three-factor structural model. Internal consistency was high for the total scale (Cronbach's alpha: 0.84) and the Socio-emotional Well-being subscale (Cronbach's alpha: 0.84), but marginal for the Oral-Health and the Functional Well-being subscales (Cronbach's alpha: 0.62-0.64). Test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.80; 95% CI 0.65-0.88) was satisfactory.
Conclusions
The total Gr-COHIP-SF 19 demonstrates satisfactory validity and reliability for evaluating oral health-related quality of life in children and young adolescents. Although individual subscale scores should be interpreted with caution, the total tool can serve as a useful PROM to support patient-centred dental care and research in Greek-speaking children and young adolescents.

Highlights What are the main findings? This study provides preliminary psychometric evidence for the Spanish ELSI-SF in older adults. The total score showed acceptable reliability, while two subscales showed limited reliability and the four-factor structure received only partial support. What are the implications of th...
