Perceived Impact of AI on Occupational Health in Promoting Safety Practices among Health Workers at State Hospital, Ifo Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Abstract

This study examined the perceived impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and health-based training systems on occupational health promotion and safety practices at State Hospital, Ifo, Ogun State. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages, and means were used to analyze the demographic data, while inferential statistics were employed to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that there is a relationship (r=0.671, p<0.05) between AI-based health applications and occupational health promotion, indicating that AI technologies significantly improve safety awareness, preventive measures, and workforce efficiency in healthcare settings. Also, there is a positive (r=0.492, p<0.05) relationship between challenges of AI-based system and effectiveness of occupational health and safety practices. It was therefore recommended that courses for occupational and health education should include instruction in AI literacy, policy makers to invest in digital infrastructure and prioritize capacity building.

Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Practices Among Healthcare Workers in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: Development of an Improvement Plan

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices are essential for protecting healthcare workers and ensuring safe healthcare delivery. This study assessed the level of compliance with OSH practices among healthcare workers in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and developed an improvement plan based on the findings. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was conducted among 52 healthcare workers using a validated researcher-made questionnaire (Cronbach’s α = 0.899). Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rank-order correlation, and Fisher’s exact test were used for data analysis. Overall OSH compliance was very high (M = 4.29). Healthcare waste management (M = 4.75) and injury and exposure reporting (M = 4.45) demonstrated very high compliance, whereas personal protective equipment (M = 4.17), psychosocial well-being (M = 4.11), and OSH training and orientation (M = 4.00) showed high compliance. Age was significantly associated with OSH training and orientation (ρ = 0.302, p = 0.030), while sex and years of service were not significantly associated with OSH compliance. These findings informed an evidence-based improvement plan to strengthen workplace safety and sustain OSH compliance among healthcare workers.

COMPLIANCE WITH OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES AMONG HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN VACCINATION UNITS: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY IN BASRA, IRAQ

Objective: Healthcare workers (HCWs) in vaccination units are exposed to various occupational hazards, making adherence to occupational health and safety (OHS) measures essential. Therefore, this study aimed to assess OHS practices among HCWs in primary healthcare vaccination units in Basra Governorate, Iraq. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 11 health sectors in Basra Governorate, Iraq, using a multistage stratified sampling approach with 228 HCWs. It depended on a questionnaire, which was designed based on a comprehensive review of relevant literature. Then, practice levels were categorized based on scores (poor and good). Results: Most HCWs demonstrated the highest compliance was observed for safe disposal of contaminated waste and sharps (93.0%), regular hand hygiene (89.0%), avoiding needle recapping (84.2%), post-exposure management (78.1%), and wearing protective gowns (55.7%). Lower compliance was identified for ergonomic practices (2.2%), safe lifting techniques (1.3%), consistent face mask use (3.5%), and regular glove replacement for each patient (7.5%). Novelty HCWs showed good OHS practices influenced by their residence and medical field.

Occupational Health Risks, Safety Practices, and Institutional Gaps among Histopathologists in Nigeria: Evidence from a Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Histopathologists are routinely exposed to chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards that may adversely affect their health and professional performance. Despite increasing recognition of occupational risks in pathology practice, evidence from sub-Saharan Africa remains limited. This study assessed occupational health awareness, safety practices, workplace infrastructure, perceived barriers, and self-reported health effects among histopathologists in Nigeria. Methods: A nationwide descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted among consultant histopathologists and pathology residents practicing in Nigeria between February and March 2026. Data were collected using a structured anonymous online questionnaire that assessed occupational hazard awareness, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, workplace safety practices, institutional safety measures, self-reported occupational health effects, and perceived barriers to safe practice. Descriptive statistics were used to summarise the findings. Results: Ninety-six histopathologists participated in the survey. Awareness of occupational hazards was high, with all respondents recognising chemical hazards and over 87% identifying biological, ergonomic, physical, and psychological risks. Nevertheless, 52.1% reported having received no formal occupational safety training. Although gloves were routinely used by all respondents, consistent use of comprehensive PPE remained suboptimal, particularly for eye protection (18.8%) and respirators (6.3%). Functional ventilation systems were available in only 27.1% of laboratories, while ergonomic workstations were reported by 31.3%. Respiratory irritation (89.6%), back pain (83.3%), eye irritation (81.3%), work-related stress (70.8%), and neck pain (66.7%) were the most frequently reported health complaints. Most respondents (87.5%) experienced at least one work-related symptom during the preceding year, yet only 22.9% had undergone evaluation or treatment for an occupational health problem. Limited institutional support (76.1%), poor laboratory infrastructure (73.9%), inadequate PPE supply (69.6%), and weak enforcement of safety regulations (69.6%) emerged as the principal barriers to safe practice. Almost all respondents (97.9%) believed that occupational hazards among Nigerian histopathologists are under-recognised. Conclusions: Nigerian histopathologists experience a substantial occupational health burden despite high awareness of workplace hazards. Deficiencies in formal training, engineering controls, ergonomic infrastructure, institutional support, and safety governance contribute to persistent workplace risks and adverse health outcomes. Strengthening occupational safety policies, improving laboratory infrastructure, expanding access to appropriate PPE, implementing regular training programmes, and establishing routine occupational health surveillance are essential to protect the pathology workforce and improve laboratory safety in Nigeria.

Evaluation the Attitudes Toward Prevention of Communicable Diseases on Health Care Workers at Al-Sadr Hospital in Iraq's Najaf governorate

Background: Communicable diseases are responsible for a heavy burden on human health. Health workers were the front line in preventing these diseases. Wrong or positive attitudes of health workers can reflect negatively or positively on infection control efforts. The primary objective of study evaluating attitudes levels between health care workers towards transferable diseases. The secondary objective, assessing association with social-demographic characteristics of health workers. Materials and Methods: The data from Al-Sadr Hospital, by use a frequency study started from the 1st of December 2021 to the 30th of May in 2022. The sample from 384 health care workers by using a self-survey administration, the data collected randomly sample, then collected then analyzed via a statistical program. Results: The current study showed that (58.1%) of health workers had positive attitudes. Also, the result indicated that (66.1%) of the participants are females, half of them were hold a bachelor's degree and married, the majority (51.5%) of them a young age group, (35.9%) of sample receive a training courses, (66.4%) have less than five years of experience, and in relations profession, (27.3) % from sample a nurses. In addition, showed no significant relationship between attitudes and socio-demographic characteristics of health workers. Conclusion: The study said that half or more half of the health care workers possesses positive attitudes, then these attitudes levels requirement to be raised up through by making a training developments on infection diseases control by health director. Maximum sample are young and have fewer than five years of experience in the profession, educational level a statistically significant with courses.

Assessment of effectiveness of health and safety measures on employees' performance in Tanzania government chemistry laboratory authority

The purpose of this paper was to examine effectiveness of health and safety measures on employees’ performance in Tanzania government chemistry laboratory authority. The performance and productivity of employees are closely linked to the health and safety of their working environment, which can serve as a key motivator and influence job satisfaction. Historically, concerns over workplace safety gained prominence during the industrial evolution, marking a shift in work conditions and the recognition of workers' rights to safe environments. The importance of the occupational health and safety at working place led to this study which assessed compliance health and safety measures in Tanzania Government Chemistry Laboratory Authority (GCLA) and its impact on the employees’ performance. Using mixed method approach i.e. quantitative (questionnaires) and qualitative (interviews) data collection methods and analysis, the study found that GCLA has effectively implemented core health and safety protocols, including emergency preparedness, proper handling of hazardous materials, and regular training. These measures were shown to have a positive influence on employee performance. The study concludes with several recommendations, including regular updates to safety policies, the integration of mental health support programs, and the strengthening of monitoring and evaluation systems.
