Abstract

Spatiotemporal patterns in ecological networks are critical for understanding population dynamics and ecosystem stability. This study investigates the role of a proportional-derivative (PD) controller in modulating Hopf bifurcation-induced spatiotemporal patterns in a networked predator–prey model with Allee effect, group defense, and time delay. Through linear stability analysis, we derive the conditions under which the controlled system undergoes a Hopf bifurcation, revealing that the critical bifurcation threshold depends explicitly on the PD control parameters. Subsequently, we perform numerical simulations on three representative network topologies, regular, small-world, and scale-free networks, to examine pattern formation. Our results demonstrate that by appropriately adjusting the proportional gain ϕp and derivative gain ϕd, the system can effectively suppress complex spatiotemporal patterns, stabilizing the homogeneous steady state even in regimes where the uncontrolled system exhibits sustained oscillations. This work highlights the potential of PD control as a practical strategy for managing spatiotemporal complexity in fragmented ecological landscapes.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics in Predator–Prey Models Incorporating Time Delay and Harvesting

A three-compartment predator-prey model (prey, middle predator, top predator) is developed by integrating spatial diffusion, discrete time delays (gestation and biomass conversion), and proportional harvesting on the two lower trophic levels. The objectives are to formulate the model, analyze local stability dynamics a...

Spatiotemporal patterns in predator-prey system with free space and limited resources.

A predator-prey model in which prey recruitment is governed by limited resources and is described by the Beverton-Holt function is employed, providing a biologically meaningful frame that explores how habitat occupancy shapes ecological interactions and spatial self-organization.

Exploring chaotic dynamics of a discrete-time prey-predator model with ratio-dependent functional response subject to weak Allee and slow-fast effect

The authors' bifurcation-theoretic analysis of the coexistence equilibrium reveals key local transitions, including period-doubling and Neimark–Sacker bifurcations, which highlight the significant influence of the Allee effect on the predator–prey dynamics.

Harvesting-induced bifurcation and memory-driven stability in a fractional-order predator-prey model with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response

This paper develops a fractional-order ecological model describing one prey and two predator species with harvesting, predator interference, and a Beddington-DeAngelis functional response. Caputo fractional derivatives are incorporated to capture memory effects in population dynamics. The model admits a biologically fe...
