Abstract

Natural products from plants have extensive applications in medicine and food due to their rich biological activities. However, traditional acquisition methods such as organic synthesis and natural extraction are limited by resource dependence and low efficiency. Synthetic biology offers an effective solution to this problem by enabling the efficient heterologous synthesis of natural products through the construction of microbial factories. This article systematically reviews the latest progress in the biosynthesis of plant natural products, focusing on the synthesis pathways of key compounds such as terpenoids and alkaloids, as well as the strategies for constructing microbial factories and the key challenges of heterologous products. This review provides ideas for innovative research and industrial applications in related fields by summarizing the latest progress.
