Abstract

The metabolic adaptation of endangered Yangtze sturgeon (Acipenser dabryanus) to dietary carbohydrates remains unclear. This study investigated how graded corn starch levels (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%) affected digestive capacity, immunity performance, nutrient metabolism and muscle quality in juveniles (216.6 ± 10.2 g) during an 8‐week trial. Digestive (lipase, amylase) and glycolytic enzymes (GK, HK, G6PDH) activities rose with starch levels, correlating with elevated glycogen storage (muscle: 8.4 mg/g; liver: 24.6 mg/g) (p < 0.05). Antioxidant capacity increased at 20%–30% starch (p < 0.05), while 30% starch reduced muscle PUFA content and increased n – 6/n – 3 ratio, elevating atherogenic (IA) and thrombogenic (IT) indices. Essential amino acid ratios and flavor‐enhancing amino acids decreased with starch inclusion, with valine as the first limiting amino acid. These findings demonstrate that 20%–30% starch could enhance metabolic and immune performance but required balancing with lipid deposition and nutritional quality considerations for sustainable Yangtze sturgeon aquaculture.

Effects of rumen-protected guanidinoacetic acid on fat deposition, antioxidant capacity, fatty acid profiles in subcutaneous adipose of Tibetan sheep: integrated RNA-seq and LC-MS/MS analysis

Introduction The subcutaneous fat exerts energy storage and protective effects. However, excessive fat deposition results in waste of biological resources and compromises meat quality. According to the biological function, we hypothesized that GAA's could reduce subcutaneous fat deposition in Tibetan sheep. Methods A t...

Effects of dietary betaine supplementation on antioxidant capacity and glycolipid metabolism in juvenile largemouth bass ( Micropterus salmoides ) fed high-carbohydrate diets

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of betaine supplementation in high-carbohydrate diets on the antioxidant capacity and glycolipid metabolism of juvenile largemouth bass ( Micropterus salmoides ). Six experimental diets were designed, including a low-carbohydrate diet (8% starch, LC), a high-...

Carbohydrate content in the diet of red-bellied pacu (Piaractus brachypomus) and its effects on growth performance, nutrient deposition, digestive enzymes, lipogenesis, and glycolysis

This study evaluated the effects of varying dietary carbohydrate (CBH) levels on growth performance, body composition, hematological parameters, metabolism, and intestinal and hepatic enzyme activity in juvenile red-bellied pacu (Piaractus brachypomus). Fish (initial weight 70.25 g) were fed three times daily to appare...

Effects of Dietary Kelp Enzymatic Hydrolysate Supplementation on Performance, Antioxidant Capacity, Immune Function, and Intestinal Health of Sows and Their Piglets

This study is the first to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with kelp enzymatic hydrolysate (KEH) from day 85 of gestation to day 21 of lactation in sows. Twenty-four Landrace × Yorkshire sows were randomly assigned to four treatments: a control diet (0% KEH) and three experimental diets supplemented...

Effects of dietary Purple Perilla seed oil on performance, egg quality, and yolk deposition of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and functional metabolites in laying ducks.

This study evaluated the effects of perilla seed oil (PSO) supplementation at graded levels (0%, 1%, 2%, and 4%) on production performance, egg quality, fatty acid composition, cholesterol levels, oxidative status, and metabolic profiles in laying ducks. A total of 256 Sansui ducks were randomly allotted to four treatm...
