TL;DR

Findings do not support delaying MRI solely to minimize presumed biopsy-related effects on DOI assessment, and MRI systematically overestimates DOI compared with final histopathology, but this discrepancy does not appear to be influenced by biopsy technique or biopsy-to-MRI interval.

Pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging for evaluating depth of invasion in oral tongue cancer: Precision and predictive value.

BACKGROUND Accurate evaluation of the depth of invasion (DOI) in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC) is essential for staging and treatment planning. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly used as a non-invasive method for preoperative DOI assessment, though further validation against histopathology i...

Evaluating Depth of Invasion in Tongue Carcinoma: Correlation of Intraoral Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging and With Histopathological Findings.

BACKGROUND Tongue carcinoma requires accurate preoperative assessment of depth of invasion (DOI) for optimal management and prognostication. The 8th AJCC/UICC TNM staging system recognizes DOI as a key determinant of T-stage, risk of nodal metastases, and survival. Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) offers excellent soft...

Clinical significance of MRI-based tumor status differs by histological subtype in early-stage cervical cancer.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) findings reflect pathological risk factors in early-stage cervical cancer and whether its clinical significance differs by histological subtype. METHODS This multicenter retrospective study included patients with FIGO 2009 stage ≤ IB1 cervical cancer who...

Accuracy of radiographic nodal counts in HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer and impact on treatment.

In HPV-associated (HPV + ) oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), pathological nodal count informs adjuvant therapy recommendations. The accuracy of preoperative radiographic nodal assessment at clinically important thresholds remains unknown. The goal of this research was to determine the diagnostic accuracy o...

Contrast-enhanced MRI in the preoperative evaluation of endometrial carcinoma

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of preoperative contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) for assessing myometrial invasion, cervical invasion, and lymph node metastasis in endometrial carcinoma and to evaluate their association with postoperative histopathological findings. Methodology: Th...

Rethinking Preoperative MRI in Early Breast Cancer: Who Truly Benefits?

Objective In light of existing evidence on the use of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in breast cancer (BC) patients undergoing upfront surgery, this study evaluated whether adding MRI to conventional imaging improved the definition of disease extent, subsequent surgical management, and survival outcomes....
