Abstract
The presence of a bimaterial interface significantly modifies the crack‐tip stress field and, consequently, can influence crack behavior and deflect the crack‐propagation path. Developing models capable of accurately capturing interface effects is therefore essential for a reliable understanding of interacting multicrack systems. In this paper, we develop an original analytical approach to approximate the stress intensity factors in coated (bimaterial) configurations. Numerical simulations are performed using the extended finite element method (XFEM) implemented in Abaqus and automated via Python scripts. A range of substrate materials and crack lengths is considered to assess the validity and robustness of the proposed formulation. The analytical predictions are compared with XFEM results for various crack spacings and stiffness ratios. Furthermore, we investigate the interaction between two neighboring cracks in the presence of a bimaterial interface.
This study proposes a numerical and intelligent prediction method for interference effects of through double cracks, based on linear elastic fracture mechanics, and develops a nonlinear prediction model to rapidly estimate interference factors, providing an efficient method for structural integrity assessment.

This study presents a computational verification of three-dimensional (3D) elastic-plastic crack-tip fields, emphasizing the dual-parameter fracture mechanics framework (J–Q) through finite element analysis (FEA) in Ansys Mechanical. While single-parameter fracture mechanics (K or J dominance) adequately describes high...

This paper investigates the free transverse vibration characteristics of nanobeams containing multiple cracks using the Euler–Bernoulli beam framework augmented by Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory. A size-dependent model is formulated by introducing discontinuities in slope and transverse displacement at cracked se...

The size effect, defined as the reduction in nominal structural strength with increasing size, is a critical phenomenon in concrete and other quasi-brittle materials, governed by fracture processes such as crack initiation, propagation, and localization within the fracture process zone (FPZ). As the structural size inc...
