Abstract

We present a global two-channel Flatt\'e amplitude analysis of the hidden-charm pentaquark candidates observed by the LHCb collaboration in the J/{\psi}p invariant-mass spectrum using the Run 1+2 dataset. We simultaneously fit the three pentaquark amplitudes to the full spectrum, including a polynomial background and complex coupling phases. The scattering length and effective range are extracted from the fitted amplitudes using the effective range expansion, with uncertainties determined through non-parametric bootstrap resampling. While real couplings yield scattering parameters compatible with a molecular interpretation, this conclusion becomes less robust when coupling phases are included. We further find that interference effects are important for the closely spaced Pc(4440)+ and Pc(4457)+ states, demonstrating the limitations of the incoherent-sum approximation.

A dispersive method to study CP asymmetries in hadronic multi-body $B$ decays

We present the details of a dispersive method to construct the amplitudes for hadronic multibody $B$ decays based on the universality of pairwise hadronic final-state interactions at low invariant masses. This approach allows us to split the amplitude into source terms controlled by phenomenological parameters and final-state interactions, governed by the precise knowledge of two-body dynamics, both resonant and non-resonant. As a concrete application, we make use of the well-determined low-energy pion-pion ($\pi\pi$) interactions to understand the enhanced localized CP violation observed in $B^{\pm}\rightarrow K^{\pm}\pi^+\pi^-$. Fitting only angle-integrated CP-asymmetry data, the method successfully predicts the Dalitz plot differential distribution of events and of the CP asymmetry in the low-energy region. This allows for a better understanding of the large localized CP asymmetry recently reported by LHCb, which is shown not to be driven by an absolute enhancement of CP-violating effects, but by a suppression of the CP-conserving part resulting from the interplay of several partial waves. Moreover, we show that the widely-neglected non-resonant isospin-2 contributions play an essential role in the description of CP violation in this system. The method can be straightforwardly adapted to other multibody decays, where final-state two-hadron interactions drive the CP violation.

Tailored PDFs for new physics searches

Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) at large Bjorken-$x$ are mostly constrained by high-energy measurements, and thus risk to absorb the energy-growing effects of unaccounted new physics (NP) if it were present in the high-energy tails of hadron-collider observables used in global PDF fits. If undetected, such contamination biases the resulting PDFs and can potentially hide the absorbed NP signals from subsequent searches. We illustrate this effect in a Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) risk-assessment scenario affecting high-mass Drell-Yan production at the High-Luminosity LHC, and compare two strategies to obtain robust PDFs and SMEFT bounds: conservative fits that exclude data above an energy cut, and simultaneous fits of PDFs and Wilson coefficients performed with the {\tt SIMUnet} tool. Both approaches are shown to successfully recover the injected new physics that is otherwise absorbed and hidden by the PDFs.

Search for the double poles of the scattering matrix in light nuclei

Exceptional points (EPs) are non-Hermitian degeneracies at which two eigenvalues and their eigenvectors coalesce, producing a defective Hamiltonian and a double pole of the $S$-matrix. Using the coupled-channel Gamow Shell Model with the $\ell=1$ spin-orbit strengths as control parameters, we locate and characterize EPs in $^6\text{Li}$, $^7\text{Li}$, $^7\text{Be}$, and $^8\text{Be}$, and analyze their imprint on energies, widths, phase rigidity, spectroscopic factors, elastic cross sections, survival probabilities, and spectral functions. The signatures of the EP in scattering and time-domain observables are found to be strongly channel-dependent, and threshold effects play a decisive role in determining the accessibility of the EP in parameter space.

Determination of the Odderon amplitude in elastic cross-sections at high energies from scaling and analyticity

Scaling amplitudes describing $pp$ elastic scattering differential cross-sections in the dip-bump region of momentum transfer at the LHC have been recently derived~\cite{scaling}. We check that the same scaling is verified by the $p\bar p$ cross-section at the highest energy of the Tevatron. Applying the general"energy to phase"relation for a given signature, coming from the analiticity properties inherent to the S-Matrix formalism~\cite{chew}, we derive the scaling amplitude with positive signature (i.e. the Pomeron). Fitting the $pp$ differential cross-sections measured by the TOTEM collaboration leads to some tension with data in the experimental dip observed at moderate momentum transfer. Concentrating the study to the dip/bump region, we are able to determine a contribution of a negative signature amplitude (i.e. the Odderon) leading to a parameter free prediction for the $p\bar p$ differential cross-section which is in agreement with the D0 data. The extraction of the Odderon amplitude in both modulus and phase is then performed and discussed.

Revisiting relativistic corrections to inclusive $J/\psi$ production at B factories: Complete expansion for three-body quarkonium production

We revisit the calculations of relativistic corrections to inclusive $J/\psi$ production at B factories. For quark-level subprocesses with three-body final states, we carry out a full expansion of the final-state kinematic parameters. The resulting cross sections are theoretically self-consistent and independent of the choice of integration variables. In the high-energy limit, both cross-section magnitudes and the line shapes of correction curves for energy and momentum distributions agree remarkably well with fragmentation-function calculations. We find that $\mathcal{O}(v^2)$ corrections suppress the cross section by roughly $14.55\%$ in the $J/\psi + X_{c\bar{c}}$ channel and enhance it by approximately $12.18\%$ for the $J/\psi + X_{\text{non-}c\bar{c}}$ channel. After incorporating published $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s)$ corrections, color-octet contributions, two-photon production channels, and feed-down effects, tension persists between theoretical predictions and experimental measurements. This indicates that complete prompt-quarkonium calculations through $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s, v^2)$, or evaluations incorporating higher-order corrections, are required to resolve this tension.

The Plan B Model: $Z^{\prime}$ collider phenomenology and discovery prospects

The Plan B Model was proposed by Allanach et al. (2023) and explains some gross features of the fermion mass spectrum. It also affects the predictions of various observables involving the $b \rightarrow s$ quark-flavour transition. The model predicts a new TeV-scale $Z^{\prime}$ which decays into various different final states. We constrain the viable parameter space of the model by re-casting several LHC direct searches for the $Z^{\prime}$ in addition to using Contur to test the model against unfolded measurements of various differential cross sections that are predicted to be non-zero in the Standard Model. We delineate the regions of parameter space that are excluded by current LHC data, and estimate the projected reach of the high luminosity LHC.
