Functional enrichment analyses showed that differentially expressed mRNAs and co-expressed mRNAs associated with differentially expressed lncRNAs were mainly involved in RNA metabolism, translation, ribosome biogenesis, amino acid biosynthesis, energy and lipid metabolism, extracellular matrix remodeling, and cell adhesion.

Abstract

Simple Summary Skeletal muscle growth strongly influences meat production and meat quality in sheep, but the molecular changes that occur during postnatal muscle development are not fully understood. In this study, we examined the gene activity of Longissimus Dorsi muscle in Hanper sheep at 1, 7, and 13 months of age using RNA sequencing. We focused on both protein-coding genes and long non-coding RNAs, which are RNA molecules that do not produce proteins but may be involved in regulating gene activity. Clear age-related changes were observed in both types of RNA, with the largest differences occurring between 1 and 13 months of age. The associated genes and biological processes were mainly related to protein production, energy and fat metabolism, growth signaling, cell adhesion, and remodeling of muscle structure. Several candidate genes and long non-coding RNA-associated networks were also identified for future study. These findings improve our understanding of how sheep muscle develops after birth and provide useful molecular information for future research on muscle growth and meat-production traits in Hanper sheep.

Comprehensive analysis of differential mRNA, lncRNA and circRNA and their ceRNA network in the Longissimus Dorsi Muscle of Jerseyyak in response to dietary protein levels

Introduction The Jersey-yak, a hybrid offspring of Jersey cattle and yak, exhibits characteristics such as strong adaptability, rapid growth and development, and outstanding production performance. Therefore, Jersey-yaks were fed diets with different crude protein (CP) levels (0%, 15.16%, and 17.90% CP, respectively),...

Nanopore long-read transcriptome sequencing reveals miR-22-3p-mediated transcriptomic remodeling and alternative splicing in chicken pectoral muscle

The full-length transcriptomic architecture mediated by gga-miR-22-3p in poultry muscle development remains largely unexplored. To address this, a lentiviral knockdown vector targeting miR-22-3p was constructed, and an in vivo miR-22-3p knockdown model was established in the pectoral muscle of 14-day-old Qingyuan partr...

Integrated transcriptomic and WGCNA analyses identify RBP7 as a regulator of skeletal muscle development in chickens.

Skeletal muscle development determines meat yield and quality in chickens. We performed transcriptomic profiling of breast muscles from fast-growing Arbor Acres (AA) and slow-growing Lushi blue-shelled-egg (LS) chicken - an indigenous dual-purpose type breed - at 1, 3, and 5 weeks. A total of 1727 differentially expres...

Methylome-transcriptome integration reveals molecular signatures of intrinsic aerobic capacity in aged skeletal muscle.

Intrinsic high aerobic capacity in aged skeletal muscle is associated with hypermethylation-enriched methylome remodeling, feature-dependent functional enrichment, distinct transcriptional signatures, and oxidative-metabolic protein differences.

Dysregulated microRNA-mRNA networks in SOD1G93A mouse skeletal muscle reveal metabolic impairments in ALS.

It is shown that SOD1G93A drives an early, sustained miRNA signature that dampens glycolysis gene expression, which could promote the fast-to-slow fibre-type transition and exacerbate energy deficit in ALS muscle.

Comprehensive Analysis of miRNAs and Predicted Protein Interaction Networks in Skeletal Muscle Development of Myostatin-Deficient Rabbits.

Myostatin (MSTN), encoded by the MSTN gene, is a critical negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. This study aims to identify and characterize the miRNAs involved in the development of the double-muscling phenotype in MSTN-deficient rabbits. We performed high-throughput sequencing to analyze the miRNA expression pr...
