Abstract
Prestressed fish-belly beam steel bracing has emerged as a reusable and space-efficient support solution for deep excavations. This paper reviews research and engineering applications reported from 2008 to 2025, with emphasis on mechanical behavior, deformation control, stability, stiffness matching, construction technology, monitoring, and structural optimization. Existing studies show that prestressing can mobilize passive earth pressure, increase the apparent stiffness of the bracing system, reduce retaining-wall movement and ground settlement, and improve construction efficiency while limiting material waste. Nevertheless, current design practice remains fragmented. Prestress is commonly introduced through steel strands whose anchorage slip may cause force loss; unified methods for in-plane stability, combined stiffness, failure-mode identification, and capacity calculation are still incomplete. Future research should therefore focus on self-balanced prestressed steel wales, reliable anchorage and compensation, failure-mode-based design, multi-objective optimization, standardized reusable components, and digital monitoring throughout construction.
Rollover stability is a critical concern for prestressed concrete bridge girders, particularly during handling, transportation, and erection when lateral restraint is limited. The growing use of long-span, slender sections has increased their susceptibility to rollover instability, especially under the combined influen...

Reinforced concrete flat slabs are a popular choice for residential and commercial construction due to their practical advantages, such as simplified formwork and reduced floor heights. However, these systems are inherently susceptible to punching shear–a brittle failure mode that can trigger catastrophic progressive c...

The buckling-restrained braced steel frames with ductile castings are a novel ductile structural system, which replaces welded gusset plates and braces with bolt-connected ductile castings and fabricated buckling-restrained braces respectively. This system eliminates welding residual stress in connections, improves t...

External prestressing reinforcement technology has been widely applied at the component level; however, its collaborative working mechanism and seismic enhancement mechanism in overall frame structures remain insufficiently systematized. This paper takes an actual frame structure as the research object and adopts a com...

Prefabricated steel structures have become increasingly important in modern structural engineering because of their construction efficiency, resource utilisation, and compatibility with industrialised construction. Beam-column joints are critical to the load-transfer, deformation, and energy-dissipation behaviour of th...

Suspension, cable‐stayed, and buttressed systems are widely used in pedestrian bridges. While they offer clear advantages, they also exhibit increased deformability under asymmetric loads. A key load‐bearing element in such bridges is the stiffening beam, which limits these displacements through bending stiffness. To i...
