Abstract
Although boron compounds appear in many chemical transformations, it is hard to imagine, these usually Lewis acidic, species would act as Lewis bases or even base-catalysts. Here we show that the adduct o-2, formed by the reaction of closo−1,2-dicarbadecaborane(10) with two equivalents of an N-heterocyclic carbene, exhibits superbasic properties with proton affinity surpassing that of the parent carbene as well as commercial superbases. It reacts selectively with C-acids, solvents and water, with its reactivity strongly influenced by substrate pKA. o-2 facilitates various Lewis base-catalyzed transformations—including aldol condensation, the Thorpe reaction, Michael addition, Robinson annulation and β-nitrostyrene polymerization—with exceptional efficiency and selectivity. Moreover, o-2 effectively catalyzes highly diastereoselective conjugate additions of 4-substituted pyrazolones to electron-poor olefins and spirocyclizations of pyrazolones with dibenzylideneacetones. A notable tolerance of catalyst to significant amounts of water and base-sensitive functional groups has also been observed. The authors synthesize a compound derived from a carborane bearing N-heterocyclic carbene, which exhibits superbasic properties with proton affinity surpassing that of the parent carbene as well as commercial superbases. The base facilitates various Lewis base-catalyzed transformations, including aldol condensation, the Thorpe reaction, Michael addition and Robinson annulation, with high efficiency and selectivity.
An unprecedented palladium (Pd)‑catalyzed insertion of unsaturated carbenes into B─H bonds is described. Using alkynyl hypervalent iodine reagents as carbene precursors and amine-borane adducts as boron sources, this method delivers a broad range of E‑configured alkenyl monoborinates in good-to-high yields with excepti...
ABSTRACT We report the development of an iron‐photocatalyzed 1,2‐chloroaminoxylation of alkenes that installs two orthogonal and independently activatable synthetic handles, a chlorine atom and an alkoxyamino group, across a diverse range of alkene substrates. The reaction is driven by iron's ability to generate chlori...

γ-Chloro ketones are multifunctional synthons that serve as versatile linchpins for the rapid assembly of molecular complexity. Despite this strategic value, their broader adoption remains conspicuously limited as a consequence of the intrinsic challenges associated with their preparation. Herein, we report a visible...

Selective synthetic routes to prepare boronic esters are highly desirable as they are valuable intermediates in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and functional materials. In this paper, we report an approach to generate boronic esters through the ring-opening hydroboration of benzylidene cyclobutane...

The direct addition of C–H bonds across allenes represents an attractive strategy for the construction of allylic frameworks, but controlling the selectivity remains a major challenge. In this Synpacts article, we summarize the development of an Ir(I) catalytic system featuring a perfluorinated bisphosphine ligand, d F...

ABSTRACT The P‐chiral phosphine AntPhos was found to be the ligand of choice for nickel‐catalyzed intramolecular reductive coupling reactions of 5‐amino substituted 2,4‐dienoates bearing a tethered aldehyde. This approach to heterocyclic compounds has little precedent in the literature; it provides, inter alia, ready a...
