Abstract
BackgroundReturn to work (RTW) is a critical aspect of recovery and social reintegration for cancer survivors. With increasing survival rates, understanding the research landscape in this field has become essential.ObjectiveThis study aims to systematically identify research hotspots, emerging trends, and development directions in the field of return to work among cancer patients through bibliometric analysis.MethodsRelevant literature published between January 1, 2004, and May 31, 2024, was retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis and knowledge mapping were performed using CiteSpace for visualization.ResultsA total of 1370 relevant publications were retrieved, with 767 English articles included in the visualization analysis after screening. These publications originated from 54 countries, with more than 30 articles from 10 countries or regions. The top three countries in terms of publication volume were the Netherlands, the United States, and Australia. The leading institutions were the University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Academic Medical Center Amsterdam. The most prolific author was Frings-Dresen, M.H.W. The top five keywords were "Return to work," "Breast cancer," "Survivors," "Quality of life," and "Employment." Keyword cluster analysis revealed 15 clusters, divided into four major categories: Population and Disease Types (cancer survivorship, cancer patients, head and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer survivors), Health Promotion and Work Ability (return to work, work ability, health promotion, functional outcome), Health Economics and Injury Compensation (supervisor, health economics, disability pension, sick leave), and Research Types (scoping review). An emergent analysis of keywords indicates a shift from early terms like "quality of life," "rehabilitation," and "sick leave" to "needs," "burden," "impairment," and "management."ConclusionBreast cancer is the most common focus within studies on cancer patients returning to work, with colorectal and head and neck cancers gaining attention. Research is increasingly focused on the economic burden's impact on cancer survivors. Effective interventions could include employer-level initiatives, vocational counseling, patient education, psychological support, and multidisciplinary measures combining biofeedback-assisted behavioral training or physical exercise.
Background Depression is highly prevalent in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), affecting prognosis and patients’ quality of life. While related studies grow rapidly, a systematic review of the development trends in this field is still lacking. Based on this, the present study used bibliometric and visualization analysis methods to systematically examine the research landscape, hot topics, and future directions in the global field of UC comorbid with depression. Methods Relevant literature published between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2025 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) and Scopus databases was retrieved. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to analyze countries, journals, authors, references, and keywords, and co-occurrence network maps were generated. For complementary analysis, clinical trial articles published in PubMed over the same time period were retrieved. Results A total of 2,069 papers were included in the visualization analysis, with an additional 28 records identified through supplementary searching. In 2021, the number of publications increased significantly and has since remained at a relatively high level. International academic exchanges in UC comorbid with depression research are active, with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada being the core research forces in this field. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases is the most published and most representative professional journal. Bernstein, Charles N. and Mikocka-Walus, Antonina have published the highest number of studies, while Ananthakrishnan, Ashwin N. and Ford, Alexander C. have the highest academic influence. The co-citation network of references suggests that research in this field is based on backgrounds such as pain management, perceived stress, and psychiatry. Keyword analysis shows that core research hotspots focus on epidemiological studies, drug safety, and side effect management. Multidisciplinary combined treatment involving gastroenterology, psychiatry, and endocrinology is a frontier research direction. Conclusion External environmental stressors and intrinsic metabolic dysregulation are jointly reshaping the frontier landscape of this field. Beyond traditional epidemiological investigations, patient quality of life and drug safety have emerged as current research priorities. Future research should focus on generating a greater volume of clinical evidence and promoting multidisciplinary collaborative care, with the goal of improving patients’ quality of life and long-term prognosis.

The study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 704 articles on traditional Chinese medicine for gastric cancer published between 2006 and 2025, using the Web of Science Core Collection WOSCC (literature database). Network analysis and visualization were performed using CiteSpace (bibliometric analysis software), VOSviewer (bibliometric mapping software), and Scimago Graphica (a free scientific data visualization application). From the perspectives of publication trends, collaborative networks, research themes, and the knowledge base, the study elucidates the current research landscape, core research forces, and the evolution of frontiers in this field. Over the past two decades, the number of publications continued to grow, reaching a historic peak of 102 in 2025. Articles published in the last decade account for over 75% of the total, indicating that this field is in an active research phase. China ranks first in publication volume (671 articles), total citations (13,447), and international collaboration centrality. Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine are the core research institutions. Major publication outlets include the Journal of Ethnopharmacology and Frontiers in Pharmacology. Keyword cluster analysis identified nine major research themes: Helicobacter pylori, acupuncture, Chinese herbal injections, network pharmacology, molecular docking, metabolomics, and others. Research hotspots evolved from basic mechanistic exploration to comprehensive treatment strategies, and further to systematic studies supported by emerging technologies. Molecular docking and epithelial-mesenchymal transition represent the current research frontiers.

Background This bibliometric analysis is aimed at mapping global trends and research hotspots in postoperative depression, providing insights into the evolution and development of research in this field. Methods A comprehensive search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database, focusing on literature from 1994 to 2024. Data extraction and visualization were performed using VOSviewer (Version 1.6.20), CiteSpace (Version 6.3.R1), and R (Version 4.3.3). Results This study encompassed 687 scholarly articles from 54 countries. The United States contributed the largest number of articles, followed by China and the United Kingdom. High‐output institutions from the United States include the University of California System and Harvard University. The Journal of Psychosomatic Research and Epilepsy were among the top journals by h‐index. Aalto Timo, Airaksinen Olavi, and Sinikallio Sanna were among the most productive authors. High‐frequency keywords included “quality‐of‐life,” “anxiety,” and “symptoms.” Recent burst keywords “risk,” “elderly patients,” and “double blind” indicate emerging trends in the field, pointing toward an increased interest in identifying factors that may precipitate postoperative depression, the unique vulnerabilities of older adults, and the methodological rigor of double‐blind studies in assessing interventions. Conclusion The research hotspots and trends in postoperative depression are centered around the impact of depression on surgical outcomes, the role of anxiety, and quality of life assessments. This study reveals a growing interest in predictors of postoperative depression and the exploration of novel therapeutic interventions, indicating an evolving and dynamic research area.

Research on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and immune evasion profoundly influences tumor progression and therapeutic efficacy. Despite rapid growth in related studies, there is a lack of bibliometric analysis to systematically reveal their knowledge structure, research hotspots, and evolutionary trends. Using CiteSpace, we conducted a multidimensional bibliometric and visual analysis of TME- and IE-related literature retrieved from the Science Citation Index (Web of Science). Among 2727 relevant publications published in 654 academic journals, contributions came from 2974 institutions across 87 countries/regions. The number of publications and citations increased annually, forming an interdisciplinary collaboration network. China (1430 publications, 52.44%) and the United States (693 publications, 25.41%) dominated the field, with the most prolific institution (Fudan University, 133 publications) and author (Wang Wei, 21 publications) both based in China. Close collaborations were observed among countries, institutions, and core authors. Frontiers in Immunology published the most articles (4.4%), while Cancer Research ranked first in co-citations (1894 times), establishing them as the 2 most influential journals in tumor microenvironment and immune escape research. Keyword analysis revealed multifaceted research themes (Q = 0.7486), with the top 13 clusters encompassing multiple dimensions, including mechanism research, clinical treatment, and specific tumor type analysis. Hot topics varied across developmental stages. This study is the first to integrate a multidimensional visual analysis of the knowledge landscape in tumor microenvironment and immune escape research. The field has exhibited rapid growth, with diversified research content and domains. Investigations into underlying mechanisms remain enduring, while tumor-specific analyses and immunotherapy research, alongside clinical applications, have emerged as key focal points and challenges. The findings further highlight the translational potential of combined therapeutic strategies targeting TME-immune interactions.

Aims: This study aims to explore the current research status, hotspots, and emerging trends of reablement and provide references for further research in this field. Methods: English-language literature related to reablement was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, covering the period from January 1, 1999 to October 20, 2025. The software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct visual bibliometric analyses of eligible publications, including annual publication output, countries, authors, institutions, cited references, and keywords. Results: A total of 276 publications were included. Overall, the number of publications showed an increasing trend over time. The United States contributed the largest number of publications, followed by Australia and Norway, and Resnick was the most productive author. The top five keywords by frequency were “older adults”, “reablement”, “intervention”, “people”, and “physical activity”. Intervention studies and qualitative studies were the main research types, with application-focused research hotspots primarily concentrated on improving physical activity among service recipients. Conclusions: Research on reablement has attracted increasing attention. Future studies should focus on conducting high-quality empirical research to identify optimal intervention strategies, as well as sensitive assessment tools and outcome indicators. In addition, researchers are encouraged to draw on existing experiences to actively promote home-based reablement services and explore the development of reablement models tailored to national contexts.

Background: Respiratory infectious diseases impose a heavy burden on global health. Exercise-related interventions have attracted increasing research attention, but the knowledge landscape and emerging trends in this field have not yet been comprehensively mapped. This study aims to address this gap through a bibliometric and visualization analysis of the literature published between 2000 and 2025. Methods: A search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection and PubMed databases, incorporating relevant English-language literature published between January 1, 2000, and March 31, 2025. After deduplication and screening, 944 articles were ultimately included. Co-occurrence network, clustering, and emergence analyses were conducted using CiteSpace 6.4.R1 software. Descriptive statistical analyses of publication volume and country, institutional, and author distribution were performed using Microsoft Excel. Results: Publication output in this field has increased significantly since 2020, peaking in 2022, a trend highly consistent with the progression of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Arena Ross, the University of London (United Kingdom), and the United States emerged as the most prolific author, institution, and country, respectively. Frequent keywords include “Physical activity,” “Pulmonary rehabilitation,” “Exercise,” “COVID-19,” “Coronavirus disease,” “Rehabilitation,” and “Quality of life.” Keywords exhibiting high burst strength include “COVID-19 (30.04),” “Coronavirus disease (10.19),” and “respiratory tract infections (7.95).” Emerging research hotspots concentrate primarily on 3 domains: “respiratory function,” “Telerehabilitation,” and “dyspnea.” Conclusion: Research on physical activity interventions for respiratory infectious diseases has shown sustained growth over the past 25 years, undergoing significant structural shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study provides a broad overview of the knowledge landscape and developmental trajectory in this field.
