Data shows that evaluating accessible non-invasive strategies for identifying advanced hepatic fibrosis in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease shows that these non-invasive scores can reliably identify advanced hepatic fibrosis in routine diabetic care.

Abstract

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease is an important cause of chronic liver disease in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, with advanced hepatic fibrosis substantially increasing liver-related morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the 120 patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease to determine the prevalence of advanced hepatic fibrosis and assess the diagnostic performance of non-invasive fibrosis scores. Hepatic fibrosis was assessed using transient elastography and compared with the NAFLD Fibrosis Score and Fibrosis-4 index, alongside clinical, biochemical and imaging parameters. The study was designed to assess whether these non-invasive scores can reliably identify advanced hepatic fibrosis in routine diabetic care, particularly where liver biopsy is impractical. Thus, data shows that evaluating accessible non-invasive strategies for identifying advanced hepatic fibrosis in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.

Diagnostic Performance of Non-Invasive Tests in Assessing Liver Fibrosis Among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

FIB-4, APRI, and NFS are effective and affordable screening tools for initial fibrosis in patients with T2DM, particularly in low-resource settings and the combination of these measures may enhance the detection of at-risk individuals for referral and further management.

FREQUENCY OF METABOLIC-DYSFUNCTION ASSOCIATED STEATOTIC LIVER DISEASE IN DIABETIC INDIVIDUALS USING NON-INVASIVE SCORE.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is common in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and may progress to clinically important liver disease. The Fatty Liver Index (FLI) is a simple non-invasive score derived from routinely available anthropometric and biochemical variables and...

Prediction of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using liver fat indices in a resource-limited clinical setting

Introduction Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously termed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is the hepatic presentation of metabolic syndrome. It shares the common pathophysiology of insulin resistance with type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this study was to est...

Evaluation of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Severity Using FIB-4 Score and Transient Elastography in Type-2 Diabetes Patients

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent chronic liver disease. Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score is a screening tool for liver fibrosis detection and Transient elastography (TE) is recommended for liver stiffness measurement (LSM) in primary care settings for patients with metabolic risk facto...

Predictors of Hepatic Steatosis and the Limitations of the FIB-4 Index in Type 2 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is highly prevalent among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Non-invasive tools (NITs) such as the FIB-4 index, are widely used for risk stratification to identify patients at higher risk of progressive liver disease. This study aim...
