Abstract
Climate change threatens global agriculture, disrupting practices and food security by altering growing seasons. These impacts therefore necessitate an understanding of the determinants influencing rural farmers' access to vital climate change adaptation information in Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. The study employed a multistage sampling method to select 180 respondents from 18 communities across 9 wards. Data were collected through questionnaire and interviews and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Key findings revealed that 34.4% of the respondents were aged 41-50, the majority were male (66.10%), married (83.90%), and natives of their village/town (62.20%). Household sizes mostly ranged from 1-5 (34.40%) to 6-10 (51.70%) members. Educationally, 25.60% had no formal education, while 34.40% had secondary education. The primary occupation for 72.20% was farming, followed by civil service (9.40%) and trading (12.80%). Radio was the main channel for climate change adaptation information, supplemented by extension agents, indigenous knowledge, fellow farmers, and television. Access frequency to climate change adaptation information varied, with 49% accessing information 4-5 times/year. Notably, 96% were unaware of government programmes on climate change adaptation, and 71.17% never attended related workshops. Most farmers (93%) faced no challenges in accessing and comprehending the information. Adaptation strategies included multi-crop agriculture, drought-tolerant crops, mulching, Fadama farming, and mixed cropping. Satisfaction with communication channels was moderate for 64.37% of respondents, while 97% had a proper understanding of climate change information. Only 7% reported challenges in accessing or understanding the information. The study concludes that socio-economic factors such as education, primary occupation, and gender significantly impact farmers' ability to access and engage with climate change adaptation information, with radio being the primary dissemination channel.
Climate change poses significant threats to agricultural productivity, particularly in flood-prone regions of Nigeria. This study assessed climate change awareness and adaptation strategies among smallholder farmers in Niger State, Nigeria. Data were collected from 469 crop farmers using structured questionnaires through a multistage sampling technique. Results revealed that 63.3% of farmers were aware of climate change, with extension agents (46.9%), friends (38.0%), and radio (34.1%) serving as primary information sources. The study identified early planting (43.9%), traditional irrigation (36.5%), and use of improved crop varieties (34.1%) as dominant adaptation strategies. Despite moderate awareness levels, farmers demonstrated limited adoption of climate-smart practices such as agroforestry (0.9%) and early warning systems (14.7%). The study recommends strengthening extension services, promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, and establishing community-based early warning systems to enhance farmers' adaptive capacity to climate change impacts.

The study analyzed factors influencing millet farmers adaptation strategies to climate change in Yobe State, Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 305 millet farmers for the study. Data were collected primarily, through the administration of structured questionnaire and FGD. Data collected were analyzed using mean, frequency, percentage, and multiple regression. The results on socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents showed that 29.8% fell within the economically active age bracket of 41-50 years, 65.9% were male, 74.8% were married, 37.4% had no formal education while 53.4% had a household size of 6-10 persons. The result also revealed that 50.8% had 8-12 years of farming experience, 48.9% had access to 2-4 hectares, 44.9% had access to climate change information, and 60% were members of association. The result revealed that extension visit account for 58% while 39.7% had an annual farm income of between ₦251,000-₦350,000 respectively. Educational background, farming experience, access to climate change information, annual farm income, extension visit, and membership of association were significant determinants of millet farmers adaptation strategies to climate change at different probability levels (P<0.001 and P<0.05). Variables such as desertification, temperature, rainfall, and drought had both positive and negative influence on millet production. The study recommends extension organizations to exposed millet farmers to more effective adaptation strategies to avert climate-related risk; government and other stakeholders should provide or link millet farmers to available sources of fund or credit that will promote the use of climate-resilient infrastructures; extension organizations should enhance farmers use of diverse sources of climate change information in the study area.

The study investigates the role of rural cooperatives in rural dwellers mitigation strategies against the impact of Climate change in Itesiwaju Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Due to lack of coordinated planning in Africa make teeming population in Africa to be vulnerable without any way out that need urgent and adequate attention. A two stage sampling technique was used for this study. The first stage involves the consideration of 80% of the ward out of 6 wards in the study area; the second stage involves random selection of 40% of cooperators from each of the 5 wards making a total of 125 respondents’ interview through the use of standard structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that 58.4% of the respondents were male with majority 68.8% of the respondents’ age fell between 30 – 49 years of age and majority 64% of the respondents source finance was through personal savings. The result also revealed drying of natural rivers (98.4%), irregular rainfall (94.4%), and excessive heat (100%) as the major climate change affecting the respondents in the study area. The findings further revealed intentional afforestation (96%), discouraging the use of firewood (84%) and digging of borehole were some of the mitigation strategies employed by the respondents. Result of the regression analysis reveals that factors such as; respondents educational level, farming experience, crop year and credit availability wee determinant factors affecting the mitigation strategies adopted by the respondents in the study area. Based on the finding of this study, the study recommends promoting co-operative participation by government and NGOs through sponsor awareness programs to encouraging rural dwellers to join co-operatives and broadening credit opportunities by collaborating with microfinance institutions to create accessible, low-interest loan packages for co-operative members.

This study examined the determinants of indigenous organic farming practices adoption among cassava farmers in Kwara State, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select 90 cassava farmers from Kwara State Agricultural Development Programme (KWADP) Zone C. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression. The results showed that 64.4% of the respondents were male, while 63.3% were within the economically active age range of 20–40 years. About 70.0% of the farmers had tertiary education, and 57.8% had household sizes of between 4–6 persons. Institutional characteristics revealed that 68.9% of the respondents were members of farmers’ associations, and majority of them 83.3% had access to extension services, most of them 71.1% had access to credit for farming activities. The logistic regression results indicated that education level (β = 0.683, p < 0.05), farming experience (β = 0.686, p < 0.05), access to extension services (β = 2.739, p < 0.01), access to credit (β = 2.645, p < 0.05), and membership of farmers’ associations (β = 1.231, p < 0.05) significantly influenced adoption of indigenous organic farming practices. Access to extension services increased the likelihood of adoption by over fifteen times. The study concludes that institutional support and farmers’ capacity-building are critical to enhancing indigenous organic farming adoption among cassava farmers. Strengthening extension delivery, improving credit access, and promoting farmers’ organizations are recommended to scale up sustainable cassava production in the study area.
Climate change poses a major threat to development in most low and middle-income countries, especially the sub – Saharan Africa. Wurompo is a small farming community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana that depends on rain-fed agriculture activities for livelihood. In recent years, droughts, unpredictable rainfall pattern and crop failure have become common in the area. The study assessed knowledge and awareness, effects of climate change on female farmers, and their adaptation strategies. An exploratory case study in design, qualitative methods were used to collect data from 50 purposefully selected participants. Data were analyzed using themes and sub-themes generated from the research questions. Findings showed lack of adequate information and knowledge on climate change and its effects. Climate change has impacted negatively on these farmers stemming from decline in crop production and unavailability of adequate water supply in due season. Challenges to climate change adaptation are poverty, poor basic infrastructure, and modern farming practices. Farmers must be educated on climate change and its effects, with training on the necessary adaptation strategies to build their resilience. Policies that target rural farmers to adapt to climate change, and device modern agricultural techniques and practices are also necessary.

This study assessed climate change awareness, understanding, observed climatic changes, and climate-related challenges affecting smallholder farmers in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone. A convergent mixed-methods research design was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected from 614 smallholder farmers selected through a multistage sampling procedure. Household surveys, Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and secondary data sources were utilized. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ordinal logistic regression, binary logistic regression, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test. The findings revealed that 80.2% of farmers had heard of climate change, with Radio/TV (56.0%), community groups (47.7%), and family/traditional knowledge (43.5%) serving as the major information sources. Farmers reported increasing temperatures (79.0%), irregular rainfall (69.5%), and prolonged dry seasons (58.6%) as the most noticeable climatic changes. Unpredictable rainfall (91.9%), soil degradation (79.2%), drought (68.9%), and pests and diseases (67.3%) emerged as the most severe climate-related challenges. Ordinal logistic regression showed that age (OR = 1.723, p < 0.001), education level (OR = 1.552, p < 0.001), and residency status (OR = 1.516, p = 0.032) significantly influenced climate change understanding. Binary logistic regression identified irregular rainfall (OR = 3.367), lack of irrigation (OR = 3.086), soil degradation (OR = 2.824), and drought (OR = 2.328) as major predictors of severe climate-related impacts (p < 0.001). Significant district-level differences in climate vulnerability were observed, while the Kruskal-Wallis test indicated significant variation in extreme weather frequency across districts (χ

= 71.08, p < 0.001). The study concludes that climate change awareness is relatively high, but vulnerability remains substantial. Strengthening climate information services, extension support, irrigation development, and the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices is recommended to enhance resilience and promote sustainable agricultural development among smallholder farmers in Southern Sierra Leone.
