Abstract
Fuzzy fault tree analysis commonly uses interval, triangular, trapezoidal, or Gaussian fuzzy numbers to describe the uncertainty of basic-event failure probabilities. However, the support intervals and parameters of conventional fuzzy numbers are usually determined by expert judgment and limited historical data, which may be insufficient to capture tail risks caused by environmental changes, cognitive bias, and data scarcity. To address this issue, this paper proposes a Wasserstein distance-based distributionally robust modeling method for fuzzy numbers. The membership function of a fuzzy number is first normalized into a probability density function, and the induced probability distribution is taken as the nominal distribution. A Wasserstein ambiguity set is then constructed to expand the fuzzy probability within a bounded distributional deviation. Two modeling schemes are developed: a structure-preserving ambiguity set, which expands interval, triangular, trapezoidal, and Gaussian fuzzy numbers in their parameter spaces, and a general ambiguity set, which approximates membership functions using step-function discretization. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method effectively expands $\alpha$-cuts under a given Wasserstein radius. An application example of fuzzy fault tree analysis further shows that expanding the $\alpha$-cuts of fuzzy failure probabilities of basic events can increase the membership degrees of true failure probabilities under marginal operating conditions in both basic-event and top-event fuzzy probabilities, thereby improving the coverage of marginal scenarios and tail risks.
In many real-life problems, decision-making gets complicated due to dual sources of uncertainty, known as randomness and fuzziness or imprecision, which can be challenging for traditional optimization methods. Most existing fuzzy optimization techniques that optimize fuzzy-valued objective functions account for fuzzine...
This study aims to investigate the estimation of the parameters of the inverse exponential Rayleigh distribution using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) and Ranked Set Sampling (RSS) methods, on account of their importance in modeling across lifespan and reliability data. The model is used on empirical data repre...

Classical fuzzy numbers are widely used for representing uncertainty and imprecision, but their conventional convex structure may be insufficient for uncertainty profiles exhibiting local oscillations or resonance-like behaviour. This paper introduces the Asymmetric Fuzzy Resonance Number (AFRN), a six-parameter fuzzy...

Two fundamental aggregation operators, namely the interval-valued T-spherical hesitant fuzzy weighted averaging (IVTSHF-WA) and weighted geometric (IVTSHF-WG) operators, are proposed, and the power Heronian mean is extended to the IVTSHF environment, yielding the IVTSHF-WPHM and IVTSHF-WGPHM operators.

In practical applications of fuzzy set theory, a fuzzy set is produced by some process and very often its information is summarized in the form of one or several numbers (e.g., if a clear-cut decision needs to be taken which depends on a single value). While those fuzzy sets are typically considered to be deterministic...
