Abstract

Wireless power transfer (WPT) is rapidly emerging technology to meet today’s charging requirements for smart mobility platforms and smart electric infrastructure. Mechanical connectors are at the core of conventional cable-based charging solutions that often lead to mechanical degradation, human discomfort, and automation constraints. These issues have driven towards developing connector-less power solutions that support scalable and flexible charging solutions. In this work, we present Universal Wireless Charging Platform capable of delivering power to multiple devices such as smartphones and rechargeable battery packs using resonant inductive coupling technique. RFID-based device identification scheme implemented with the proposed platform automatically detects the type of device placed on charging platform and actuates appropriate charging configuration accordingly. Coil selection, power regulation, and system monitoring is managed by micro-controller based system-on-module (SoM) and stable operation is achieved with continuous feedback from voltage and current sensors. The transmitter is biased to operate at resonant frequency (85 kHz) to allow effective magnetic coupling with receiver coil. Experimentation demonstrates stable charging performance with accurate device identification and reliable wireless power transmission. Safety features including voltage monitoring, auto shutdown, and overcurrent protection circuits increase the robustness of the system. Future scalable and adaptable wireless charging solutions for smart gadgets, electric cars, drones, and distributed IoT applications may be made possible by this suggested framework.
