Abstract

ABSTRACT Monitoring students’ physical activity still faces limitations in obtaining objective, continuous, and usable data for evaluation. The development of wearable technology offers opportunities through recording steps, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), activity duration, and sedentary behavior. However, evidence regarding patterns of use, indicators employed, and integration within educational contexts remains diverse. This study is important to provide a systematic understanding of the contribution of wearable technology to monitoring students’ physical activity. This study aimed to identify and synthesize the use of wearable technology for monitoring students’ physical activity and its benefits for learning. A systematic literature review was conducted through literature searches in databases, screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and article selection following the PRISMA framework. Data were extracted based on physical activity indicators, forms of technology use, and findings, then analyzed narratively. The review showed that wearable technology was used to measure steps, MVPA, activity duration, and sedentary behavior, while supporting self-monitoring, feedback, goal setting, and physical education learning. Overall, wearable technology has potential to strengthen objective monitoring of students’ physical activity, but its benefits depend on guidance, context of use, pedagogical integration, and effective data-based learning decision-making.
