Abstract

Professional burnout is an increasingly recognized problem among healthcare professionals, including dietitians, and may negatively affect both job satisfaction and quality of patient care. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of burnout among dietitians and to explore the potential role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in its prevention. A diagnostic survey method was applied using two original questionnaires. The first survey (2024) assessed burnout among practicing dietitians (n = 145), while the second survey (2025) examined the use of AI tools among dietitians and dietetics students (n = 145). Burnout symptoms were reported by 41% of dietitians, and significant associations were observed between workplace setting and perceived professional recognition, as well as collaboration within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of respondents indicated that AI tools helped optimize their professional work, particularly in developing dietary recommendations, meal plans, and educational content. Chatbots and content generators were the most frequently used AI solutions. The findings suggest that professional burnout may represent a relevant issue among dietitians and that AI-based tools are perceived as supportive in optimizing professional tasks. Further research is required to evaluate the long-term impact of AI use on mental well-being and professional practice in dietetics.

Management Practices and Professional Burnout Among Healthcare Professionals: A Cross-Sectional Study

Professional burnout represents a significant occupational risk among healthcare professionals due to high work demands, emotional strain, and the continuous responsibility associated with patient care. Organizational factors, including management practices and work organization, play an important role in maintaining employees’ well-being and preventing burnout. The aim of this study was to examine the role of management practices in the prevention and management of professional burnout among healthcare professionals. A cross-sectional study design was applied. The sample consisted of 30 healthcare professionals employed in secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions. Data were collected using the standardized Job Demands–Resources Questionnaire (Schaufeli, 2015). Descriptive statistical, correlation, and reliability analyses were used to evaluate the collected data. The majority of participants were female (83.2%), with a mean age of 30.83 years. Nurses constituted the largest professional group (56.7%), with an average work experience of 12.2 years. Overall satisfaction with work organization and human resource management was moderate. The mean burnout score was 2.24 ± 0.23, indicating a relatively low level of professional burnout among the respondents. The findings suggest that organizational factors and management practices play an important role in maintaining employee well-being. In particular, supportive interpersonal relations within healthcare teams appear to be associated with lower levels of professional burnout. Strengthening leadership practices, improving work organization, and providing adequate institutional support for healthcare professionals may contribute to the prevention of professional burnout and improvement of healthcare service quality.

Exploring the Association between Emotional Intelligence and Burnout in Medical Students

Burnout poses a significant threat to the well-being and professional development of medical students. Emotional intelligence (EI) is increasingly recognised as a protective factor that enhances coping mechanisms and resilience. This study aimed to assess the profiles of EI and burnout among Indian medical students and investigate the association between these two constructs in a region where such data is limited. A cross-sectional study was conducted at a private medical college in Western India from April to November 2024. The study included 370 participants comprising undergraduate students from all professional years and interns. Data were collected using an anonymous online survey incorporating the Schutte Self-Report EI Test and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Statistical analysis included Spearman’s Rho and the Mann– Whitney U test to examine the relationship between EI and burnout levels. The mean EI score was 121.8 (standard deviation [SD] = 11.9), with 77.3% of students falling within the normal range. The mean total burnout score was 43.2 (SD = 13.1). Among the burnout domains, personal burnout (46.9) was highest, followed by work-related (45.4) and client-related burnout (37.2). While 51.6% of students scored below the burnout threshold, 43.8% exhibited moderate burnout. A significant moderate negative correlation was observed between total EI and total burnout scores (ρ = −0.288, p < 0.001). In addition, students categorised with moderate burnout possessed significantly lower EI scores compared to those with low burnout ( p < 0.001). This study confirms a significant inverse association between EI and burnout. Higher EI was associated with lower emotional exhaustion inherent in medical training. Personal burnout was the most prevalent dimension. These findings suggest that EI may be a relevant correlate of burnout, and longitudinal or interventional studies are needed to determine whether enhancing EI can improve resilience and psychological well-being.

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perspectives on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Future Healthcare Workforce

This study examined vocational health services students’ perceived knowledge, anxiety, hope, adaptation, and perspectives regarding the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and evaluated whether these scores differed according to selected individual and health-related characteristics. A cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational design was used. The study included 174 students enrolled at Batman University Vocational School of Health Services during the 2025–2026 academic year. Data were collected between April and May 2026 using a Personal Information Form and the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perspectives Scales on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. Descriptive statistics, independent-samples t tests, Pearson correlation analysis, and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were used. Internal consistency coefficients ranged from 0.777 to 0.897. No statistically significant differences were found according to gender, year of study, chronic illness status, or living arrangement. Students who regularly used medication had higher anxiety scores in the unadjusted analysis; however, this difference did not remain significant after Holm adjustment and was considered exploratory. Positive correlations were identified among all measured dimensions, with the strongest association observed between hope and adaptation. The findings indicate that students’ evaluations of artificial intelligence involve interrelated perceptions of knowledge, anxiety, positive expectations, and educational preparation needs. Healthcare education programs should include structured content addressing the clinical applications, limitations, ethical implications, and critical evaluation of artificial intelligence.

Burnout Among Healthcare Professionals and Physicians

Professional burnout of medical professionals is a critical problem of health systems due to its direct impact on the quality of medical care and the psychological well-being of specialists. The purpose of the study was to establish the severity of professional burnout syndrome among Bulgarian medical personnel and identify its associations with organisational working conditions and coping mechanisms. The cross-sectional observational study involved 101 medical workers from various medical institutions in Bulgaria who completed an online survey using the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Pines and Aronson methods in September-December 2025, followed by the use of Pearson correlation analysis and the student’s t-criterion. The results showed a moderate level of emotional exhaustion with an average of 2.83 points, low depersonalisation at 1.81 points, and maintained high professional performance in the range of 3.51-3.78 points on a five-point scale. Overall burnout indices were 2.85 points for the Maslach method and 1.94 points for the Pines and Aronson method, which correspond to moderate and below average levels, respectively. It was determined that 43.9% of respondents work with a high level of personnel shortage, and 74.5% of participants identified staff shortage as the main professional stressor, while only 14.3% considered changing jobs. Correlation analysis showed moderate positive associations of the work environment with burnout indices at 0.519 and 0.567, respectively, while survival strategies showed a protective role due to negative correlations from -0.296 to -0.340. There were no statistically significant differences in burnout rates depending on age, gender, work experience, or type of medical facility. The results obtained justify the need to develop multi-level organisational interventions to optimise personnel policy and strengthen the system of psychological support for medical workers in the Bulgarian healthcare system.

Disability-Related Educational Content in Nutrition and Dietetic Programs: An Exploratory Study.

Background: Health disparities experienced by people with disabilities (PWD) are partly attributed to inadequate knowledge, training, confidence and competence regarding disabilities among health professionals. While registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) are key members of the healthcare team, it is unclear how pre-professional nutrition and dietetics (ND) programs prepare future RDNs to care for PWD. This study examined the status of disability-related education within ND programs in the United States. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional electronic survey was distributed to 570 directors of accredited ND programs. The survey, which adapted questions from a previously validated instrument and published studies, included questions assessing disability-related content, teaching methods, resources and potential barriers to inclusion within the curriculum. All data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Participants (n=64) were mostly female and between the ages of 34 and 68 years. The most common disability specific content included were patient-centered care, cultural humility and implicit bias training and an interdisciplinary approach to care. Most programs included relevant aspects of nutrition assessment for PWD, however, the types of disabilities included varied across programs. Common teaching methods were lectures, case studies, journal articles and clinical placements. A lack of faculty knowledge and expertise in disability education was identified as a potential barrier. Conclusion: ND programs include varying amounts and types of disability-related content, suggesting that entry-level RDNs may not be adequately prepared to address the nutritional needs of PWD. Programs should be evaluated to identify areas for improvement in disability-related content and to assess student understanding of these topics.
