Investing in Social Media Applications for Building an Integrated E-Learning Environment Using Information Technology Tools
Abstract
This study presents and focuses on the application and use of Web 2.0 tools and social media in e-learning for IT-related subjects. Although the transformative potential of these tools in pedagogical terms is practically recognized, there is a gap in research on an aggregated empirical analysis (1) of core features—collaborative working, task and source management, and tools for content creation—and the inherent practical challenges (2), especially security and IT support. In reply, this research applies a methodological triangulation of literature reviews, experts, and students. The findings highlight the importance of some features (e.g., schedulers, note-taking applications, quiz generators) to promote engagement and task orientation. However, the study highlights and addresses major challenges related to implementation, including cybersecurity threats, data privacy issues, and technical integration difficulties. This article is original due to its analytical synthesis, which frames the evolving capabilities of IT tools and establishes guidelines for creating secure, sustainable, and equitable e-learning environments that complement these tools, providing a solid foundation for reflecting on educational practices.
