An approach for improved power optimization of V/f controlled induction motor drives with core loss compensation
Abstract
The present research delineates a slip-based loss minimization methodology for operating 3-phase induction motors utilizing variable voltage variable frequency (V/f) controllers. The suggested technique considers both core loss impacts and differences in machine parameters. Induction motors are widely utilized in industrial applications because of their robustness and simplicity; yet, core losses can significantly diminish their energy efficiency, especially under varying load conditions. Traditional V/f control methods frequently neglect core losses, leading to diminished energy efficiency. The operating slip is enhanced by using the dynamic values of core loss resistance and machine parameters in the suggested model. The proposed approach dynamically adjusts the voltage and frequency supplied to the motor by including core loss models in the control algorithm. This ensures optimal magnetizing flux, reducing core losses while preserving motor efficiency. The methodology combines real-time loss assessments with adaptive control techniques, enabling precise adjustments to operating settings. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves substantial energy savings, particularly under low-load circumstances, while maintaining torque and speed stability. The developed technique is appropriate for practical applications due to its simplicity and precision. The efficiency of the three-phase induction motor has been enhanced, as confirmed by relevant simulation results and corroborated by tests conducted on a practical 1 kW three-phase induction motor.
