This study aims to demonstrate, through a practical approach, how variant readings (qirāʾāt) influence the semantic structure of the Qur’anic text. Its primary objective is to examine the semantic effects of variant readings—such as narrowing, expansion, or shifts in meaning—frequently discussed in classical tafsīr literature, and to assess whether the relationship between qirāʾāt and semantics can provide an interdisciplinary framework for Qur’anic interpretation. The study adopts a qualitative method based on documentation and comparative document analysis. Classical and modern works on tafsīr and semantics, together with authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) qirāʾāt traditions, constitute the main sources. The selected verses are analyzed through synchronic and diachronic semantics, information structure, pragmatics, and compositional analysis. The findings reveal no contradiction (tanāquḍ) among the different modes (wujūh) of qirāʾāt that would disrupt meaning. Rather, these readings remain within the limits of the wording (lafẓ) and enrich the text through variation of diversity (ikhtilāf al-tanawwuʿ). They also clarify the jurisprudential, theological, ethical, and psychological dimensions of the verses. Integrating ʿilm al-qirāʾāt, which preserves the transmitted wording of revelation, with semantics, which uncovers the text’s layers of meaning, offers theoretical and practical coherence for understanding the Qur’an’s inimitability (iʿjāz) and universal message.
This study examines the semantic structure of the Qur’anic root m-l-k (ملك) using a lexical-semantic approach. The root appears in numerous derivational forms throughout the Qur’an and is associated with concepts such as ownership, authority, kingship, sovereignty, and dominion. This study aims to identify the meanings of m-l-k and its derivations, analyze their contextual usage, and explain the semantic relations that construct the Qur’anic concept of authority and sovereignty. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study uses all Qur’anic occurrences of the root m-l-k as its research data, comprising 117 instances distributed across 21 derivational forms identified in Al-Mu‘jam al-Mufahras li Alfāẓ al-Qur’ān. These data were analyzed using a lexical-semantic framework informed by classical Arabic lexicons and contextual interpretation, with particular attention to polysemy, semantic field relations, and semantic hierarchy. The findings reveal a progressive semantic expansion from ordinary ownership (mālik) to political authority (malik), institutional sovereignty (mulk), and metaphysical dominion (malakūt). The analysis also demonstrates that the derivations form a hierarchical semantic system in which human ownership and political authority are portrayed as limited and temporary, whereas absolute sovereignty belongs exclusively to Allah. Furthermore, the study confirms that the meanings of the derivations are determined by the interaction of morphology, context, and discourse, producing an integrated semantic network encompassing theological, political, social, and metaphysical dimensions. This study contributes to Qur’anic lexical semantics by providing a comprehensive analysis of the semantic relationships among all derivational forms of the root m-l-k within a unified analytical framework.

The review provides a scientific analysis of the book by V. B. Kasevich, a prominent contemporary scholar of the St Petersburg Linguistic School, devoted to the main problems of semantics and pragmatics. V. B. Kasevich’s authoritative expert analysis of various aspects of the general semantic thesaurus, including a detailed examination of all scientific concepts related to semantics, from basic elements to philosophical components, enriches semantics as a branch of linguistics. V. B. Kasevich’s concept of semantic predicates as an analogue of parts of speech is of significant interest to linguists, and the author proposes a five-element structure of an utterance. Considering the methods of linguistic analysis, the author insists on the need to take into account not only the formal data of language units, but also the cognitive and pragmatic aspects of their use, ensuring the completeness of the study. V. B Kasevich’s combination of cognitive and integrative approaches to semantics is characterized by its originality and deep understanding of the problem. The review highly appreciates this monograph, noting its innovative nature, originality, and non-trivial interpretations of such pressing issues as the system of language and meaning, the semantics of language and the semantics of grammar, semantics in philo- and ontogenesis, and others.

This study examines the construction of al-tarāduf between the words khauf and khasyyah in the Qur’an through semantic analysis and its implications for interpretation. Both words are often translated as “fear,” yet they possess different nuances of meaning when analyzed contextually. This research aims to explore the meanings of khauf and khasyyah, analyze their usage in Qur’anic verses, and identify the interpretive implications arising from the differences between the two terms. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by examining classical and contemporary tafsir literature as well as linguistic studies related to Qur’anic semantics. The findings indicate that khauf refers more to general fear arising from perceived danger or threat, whereas khasyah denotes fear rooted in knowledge, reverence, and awareness of the greatness of Allah. These differences demonstrate that the Qur’an does not use synonymous words randomly, but rather places each word according to its semantic and contextual function. Therefore, understanding the distinction between khauf and khasyah is important in order to avoid simplification of meaning and to strengthen accuracy in interpreting Qur’anic verses.

The article examines formulaic syntactic constructions involving the postposition "կողմից" (on the part of), on the basis of publications issued by the mass media of the Republic of Armenia between 2021 and 2025. The study aims to identify the structural, semantic, and functional features of these constructions, determine the factors contributing to their spread, and assess their conformity with the syntactic patterns of Armenian. To solve the identified problems, we applied descriptive-analytical and comparative-grammatical methods.
Two principal patterns are identified: "genitive form of a noun or pronoun + կողմից + deverbal noun" and "genitive form of a personal pronoun + կողմից + substantivized infinitive." These patterns occur most frequently in media texts reflecting political, diplomatic, and official communication. Their structural and functional correspondence with equivalent Russian patterns provides grounds for interpreting them as manifestations of syntactic calquing.
The findings demonstrate that, in these constructions, the agent of the action is already expressed by the genitive form of a noun or pronoun. When used with a deverbal noun or an infinitive, these forms function as subjective genitives, identifying the person or institution to whom the corresponding action is attributed. In such cases, the postposition "կողմից" (on the part of) neither establishes a new syntactic relation nor contributes additional semantic content; instead, it duplicates the subject relation already encoded by the genitive form.
The article proposes replacing such constructions with forms of expression that conform to the internal structural principles of Armenian, namely the genitive form without an additional postposition, a finite verb form, or an explicitly expressed subject.

This study examines the dialectical relationship between syntactic analysis (I’rab) and rhetorical exegesis (al-Tafsir al-Bayani) through an analytical reading of selected texts from the Hadith and the Quran. It proceeds from the hypothesis that the multiple syntactic possibilities inherent in the Hadith do not constitute a purely grammatical phenomenon, but rather exert direct influence on the interpretation of rhetorical meanings within the Quranic discourse. Adopting a descriptive-analytical methodology, the study employs the tools of linguistic and syntactic analysis to examine how syntactic choices shape semantic interpretation and generate polysemy. The findings reveal a profound complementary relationship between syntactic analysis in the Hadith and the rhetorical exegesis of the Quran, demonstrating that syntactic analysis opens new semantic horizons that enrich the rhetorical understanding of Quranic text. These findings affirm the indispensable role of syntactic analysis as an interpretive instrument in Quranic studies.
